8 Sentence Sunday - 10/6/13!

Hello lovelies! Today marks the first venture into 8 Sentence Sunday!! Be sure to check out the other excerpts of Weekend Writing Warriors!!

My first excerpt is from Breaking the Nexus. I previously had self-published this and then pulled it so I could publish it with the fantabulous Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing. I also decided to add some brand new content and to flesh out some scenes where readers wanted some more details. The following is a snippet from the brand new beginning!

Disjointed images bombarded him, nightmarish scenes of battles between creatures that couldn’t exist. Cries of pain and fear reverberated through a forest of strange, twisting trees, nearly drowning out the clash of steel, the sickening crunch of bones breaking, the wet ripping of flesh giving way.

What the hell was going on?

Connor Flynn considered himself a practical man. Having worked too many gruesome crime scenes over the years, it wasn’t unusual for his dreams to be twisted. Yet he couldn’t remember a single instance when his mind had conjured up anything like this.

The beings locked in battle were illuminated by flashes of brilliant color light, seeming to originate from something that looked human, but couldn’t be.

Well, what did you think?

Curious about the book? Well don't miss my novella of the Mythrian Realm, Warrior Unleashed, AVAILABLE NOW on Amazon!!

Cover Reveal for Warrior Unleashed!!

Welcome to the official cover reveal of Warrior Unleashed, book 1.5 in the Mythrian Realm series! When Breaking the Nexus released on 12/12/12, readers fell in love with the Mythrian Realm and clamored for more. Since the follow up, Waking the Phoenix won’t be ready until sometime this summer, I knew I had to give readers a taste of Mythria.

Warrior Unleashed, a novella featuring Sha’s half brother, will be released on May 7! This novella is set entirely in the Mythrian Realm and while the hero and heroine are not Sha and Connor, I think you’ll all fall in love with this couple. Find out what happens when the sexy panther Chimerae, Achaius Rilke, must team up with feisty Gaelen Sorceri Saia Makan in this action packed novella!

Without further ado, I present the gorgeous cover designed by Blue Harvest Creative!

Blurb:

Nothing is more dangerous than a warrior unleashed.

When Sentinels begin dying under mysterious circumstances, the deaths are believed to be unrelated. Only one man sees the truth: an unknown enemy is targeting the elite group of warriors and no one is safe. As a panther Chimerae, Achaius Rilke recognizes the signs of an unpredictable predator. The only person he can trust is Saia Makan, the tempestuous Sorceri who has driven him crazy for years. But when the killer has set his sights on Saia, Achaius faces the hunt of his life.

Don’t miss the first book, Breaking the Nexus, available now on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and in paperback!

A warrior trying to save humans. A detective searching for a killer. And a powerful romance neither expected.
Throughout history, myths and legends of extraordinary creatures have been told and retold. Fantastic tales of demons and banshees, gryphons and dragons, and of course, magic. Stories that every child grows to learn are nothing more than fantasy…or are they?

Beyond the world you see lies a hidden realm, the Mythrian Realm, inhabited by all of the creatures you’ve been told are mere fiction. Only one thing lies between humans and the truth: the Nexus. A magical barrier erected millennia ago to separate the two realms, it has stood the test of time. Until now.

For Mythrian Sha Phoenix, magic is nothing new. But when she stumbles upon a portal on the verge of collapse, her fate will forever change. Pulled through the portal into the Human Realm, she lands in the middle of Detective Connor Flynn’s brutal murder scene. Soon it is obvious someone is using blood magic to try to bring down the Nexus. Together, Connor and Sha must work to unravel the secrets before the barrier falls and the realms collide.

The Nexus is breaking and all hell is about to unleash…literally.

Meet Lindsay Avalon!

I am a wife, a programmer, and now an author. I have an adorable mini Schnauzer and more books than I have room for. I love reading romance because no matter what may be happening in my life, I can always count on my books to end happily ever after. The day I met my husband was the day I truly began believing in happily ever after. After hearing me complain a few too many times that I had “nothing” to read despite the hundreds of paperbacks scattered around the house, my husband began suggesting I write my own stories. When I finally took his advice I discovered that although I enjoy my day job as a software engineer, my true calling is to be an author.

My sister drilled into me an appreciation for fantasy and mythology, something I try to bring to my books. My debut novel, Breaking the Nexus started as a book written for NaNoWriMo and has grown to so much more. It was the conduit that introduced me to a fantastic group of independent authors who have changed my life in unimaginable ways.

When I’m not writing, I’ve found a passion for blogging and interviewing fellow authors. I also love reading, baking, crochet, sewing sock monkeys, playing video games, and all sorts of random crafts. I have an incurable love of rubber duckies and stuffed animals, and I believe nobody should have to grow up if they don’t want.

Announcing Release Date for Warrior Unleashed!!

Well my lovelies, it's time. Book 1.5 of my Mythrian Realm series, Warrior Unleashed, will be releasing very soon. When?

Tuesday, May 7!!!

I'd have loved to release it just a bit sooner but I'll be out of town for a day job conference and then I'd have had to miss all the fun!

This novella will give you a much deeper introduction to Mythria as well as setting up for Waking the Phoenix which I hope will be out this summer! I won't be announcing a release date for Waking the Phoenix until it's in editing, but I'll be sure to keep you updated on that :)

Stay tuned for the cover reveal for Warrior Unleashed coming soon! Until then, here's the blurb and first chapter to occupy you :)

The only person he can trust is Saia Makan, the tempestuous Sorceri he has chased from afar. But when the killer has set his sights on Saia, Achaius faces the hunt of his life.

Now, without further ado, I give you chapter 1 of Warrior Unleashed!

Rage suffused her, casting a red haze over her vision as she attacked the sparring post. Blood bloomed on her knuckles, but she didn’t register the pain. The blows continued to rain down as she embraced the bitter anger. Anything to keep from dwelling on the grief lurking just beneath the surface.
She didn’t know who was more deserving of her wrath: the draka who was murdering Sentinels, or Treven for having the audacity to be the latest victim. How dare he let some bastard catch him off guard. They were partners, supposed to look out for each other. Who was going to guard her back now that he was dead?
“Draka,” she repeated under her breath, redoubling her efforts to annihilate the padded target in front of her. Nobody spoke the old language anymore, save for a few scattered words or phrases, but the curse seemed appropriate. Any coward who incapacitated a Sentinel before slitting their throat deserved to be called draka.
“Come now, Saia. That’s a bit rude to say that to an innocent sparring post, don’t you think?”
Wonderful. Just what she needed to make this day even better. What in the Seven Hells was he doing here? The amusement in the deep voice only served to rile her up further.
“Go away, Achaius, I’m not in the mood.”
“I figured you could use some company, considering you’re missing Treven’s memorial. Unless you forgot it was today, of course.”
Right, how could she forget? They would light the funeral pyre for her partner of five years, but Saia couldn’t bring herself to attend the memorial. She’d said her goodbyes privately and she knew he’d understand. She clamped her lips, battling the wave of tears that welled up. Damn Achaius. She’d been fine until he showed up.
“I didn’t forget,” she managed, her voice betraying only the slightest tremble. Why couldn’t he leave her in peace before she made a fool of herself by bursting into tears? She refused to break down in front of him. Of all the people that had to track her down, why him?
Achaius Rilke could rile her temper faster than anyone she knew, but at the moment he wasn’t trying to annoy her or tempt her competitive streak. No, he was being nice to her and that was worse. She didn’t need nice, she needed to control her emotions and focus on revenge.
Sighing, she dropped her arms and stepped out of the ring of power used to protect observers of training sessions. When activated, no magic or weapons could leave the circle. Without a word, she walked past the wall of chiseled muscle and grabbed her towel, scrubbing it hard over her face. Working out in the training room wasn’t helping to stop the grief roiling inside and she was perilously close to giving into it.
The air shifted and she sensed him moving to stand next to her. Wild energy emanated from him and she knew his panther was straining to be let free. Of all the Chimerae she’d ever encountered, she had only ever been able to sense Achaius’ beast. The man intrigued her as much as he infuriated her, challenged her even as he pushed her to the limits of her patience.
He moved closer, warmth teasing the wisps of hair at the back of her neck as he exhaled. His musky scent curled around her, enticing her to lean against his strength.  Get a hold of yourself, Saia Makan.
“Please, Achaius, just go away.” Exhaustion weighed upon her and she dropped to the bench, her head falling into her hands. Gods, she didn’t need this. Couldn’t he get it through his skull she wanted to wallow in self-pity alone?
“Contrary to what you may think, I’m not here to give you a hard time, Saia. I’m here as a friend. Let me help.”
She lifted her head, her gaze meeting his in surprise. “I don’t need your help. I’m fine.”
Was that hurt that flashed in his eyes? “You’re not, but if you want to be miserable, go for it. When you’re done feeling sorry for yourself, come find me. We need to talk. Treven was the third Sentinel dead in less than a month and we’ve got a serious problem.”
He turned, started walking toward the exit, and guilt stabbed her. Mother Night, she was being a bitch and he didn’t deserve it. “Achaius, wait. I’m sorry.” An instant later his words registered and her blood turned to ice in her veins. “Wait, what do you mean he’s the third death?”
Pausing at the heavy door, he shook his head. “Time enough for that later. Come on, I want to show you something first.”
Curiosity piqued, she stuffed her belongings into the simple black bag she’d brought and hurried after him. Somehow, the man had managed to pry her mind away from the crushing sadness at losing her partner and, despite her earlier words, she was grateful for the distraction. As he led the way, it was hard not to admire the way he moved, his panther showing itself in the graceful stride of a predator. Oh yes, she was definitely distracted now.

First chapter of Warrior Unleashed!!

My dear lovelies, very soon I will be releasing my Mythrian novella, Warrior Unleashed, and since it has taken me longer than expected, I wanted to give you a present. Here is the first chapter!

Warrior Unleashed takes places in the Mythrian Realm, introduced in Breaking the Nexus. This novella features Achaius Rilke, a panther Chimerae who also happens to be Sha's half brother, and Saia Makan, a Gaelen (wind) Sorceri. The cover is being designed by the fantabulous Blue Harvest Creative, and I will be revealing that soon! The amazingly fantabulous Cinta Garcia is editing this and my equally amazing army of betas are helping me making this the best it can be.

In case you missed it, here's the blurb for Warrior Unleashed:

- g-spot vibe
- oral sex "essentials" kit

How awesome is that? Now then, let's get to that blurb, shall we? Please excuse any typos, this is unedited!

She hadn’t always been afraid of closed in spaces, not until the day she learned nightmares and monsters were very real. Don’t think about that day. Calm down and stop making a fool of yourself. Humiliation burned her cheeks and she wished she could disappear so Achaius couldn’t witness her moment of weakness.
“Saia, take a breath.” She heard the command, concern sharpening the tone, but it was faint. Still, she struggled to obey, willing her lungs to expand. Brisk hands sped up and down her arms in an attempt to offer comfort. “Come on, baby, you’re alright. It’s perfectly safe here. The training grounds are more enclosed than this room.”
Despite the truth of his words, she couldn’t draw enough air and the room began to spin, spots dancing before her eyes. She heard a muttered curse, felt his arms come around her, turn her, pull her close. Before she could comprehend his intent, his mouth closed over hers.
Mother Night, his taste was intoxicating, pushing all thoughts, all fears from her mind. He lifted his head a fraction and she moaned in protest. “Take a breath, baby,” he said, teeth nipping at her bottom lip. Obeying without conscious thought, her hands clenched in his hair and yanked him down, demanding more.
Achaius purred and pushed her backward, boosting her up on top of a large, flat ledge. Deepening the kiss, his tongue swept into her mouth, claiming hers even as he spread her legs to make room for his torso. Frantic for his touch, she rubbed her aching core against his erection, loathing the barrier of cloth between them.
All the years of teasing, of dancing around their attraction. What in the Seven Hells had they been thinking? They were fools to waste all of that time when they could have been doing this.
He tugged her head back lips moving  to her neck, the slight pain from his bite giving way to pure pleasure. “Sure this is what you want, baby?” Achaius asked, tongue lashing her sensitive flesh while his hand skimmed the side of her breast and coaxed a shiver from her body.
“Stop and I’ll have to hurt you,” she managed and arched her back to provide him with better access.
He chuckled. “We wouldn’t want that.” One claw revealed itself moments before he used it to slice open her shirt, her aching nipples pebbled and begging for his touch.
“That was mean, kitty. How do you know that wasn’t my favorite shirt?” Saia asked, pushing his shirt above his head, desperate to touch him.
“Hmm, somehow I doubt a plain, gray shirt was your favorite. Now hush, there are better uses for your mouth.” His lips claimed hers in another hard kiss then he grabbed her hands, pinning them above her head. Liquid heat rushed to her core at the unfamiliar sensation of being restrained.
“Let me go, damn you,” she ordered, surprised at the huskiness of her voice.
“Not yet, not until I’ve had my fun.” A wicked smile gleamed in the dancing light reflected from the tumbling water. Breath coming in quick pants now, her thighs clenched in anticipation. When his weight shifted just enough to free her legs, she whipped them out and around his waist, fitting her throbbing center to his cock. Achaius let out a low growl, hips beginning a shallow thrust against her that sparked a slow climb toward oblivion. In this moment, this dangerous man was hers and exhilaration made her almost giddy.

"Have you been lucky in love? Why or why not?"

I have personally been very lucky in love. Eight and a half years ago, I met my husband in college. He's not perfect, but he's perfect for me :) Whereas my hyperness and occasional craziness annoy people, he finds it fun and adorable. Nobody knows me as well as he does and I'm so happy I found him. The best part? He supports me 100% in my writing. I know if I'm stuck on a plot point, I can go to him or if I just need to rant about something. He has even told me that in a few years when we're more financially stable, I can quit my job and write full time! Does it get much better than that? I think not :)

I recently published my first paranormal romance, Breaking the Nexus, and this April I'm hoping to release a novella in my Mythrian Realm series called Warrior Unleashed. This hero, Achaius Rilke, is a sexy panther Chimerae (shifter) who's hoping to get lucky in love with Saia Makan, a Gaelen (wind) Sorceri. Check out this snippet from Warrior Unleashed and be sure to snag your copy of Breaking the Nexus!

As the Nexus continues to break down, evil threatens the Mythrian and Human Realms. Millennia ago, only the sacrifice of the Great Phoenix was enough to imprison Ferren, a blood mage with the power to destroy the Human Realm. When the Nexus falls, his prison will shatter and he will be free to walk the earth once more, leaving a path of destruction in his wake.

Chaos engulfs the Mythrian and Human Realms as Ferren fights to escape his prison. Connor and Sha must race against time to find the last of the phoenixes before all is lost. There’s just one problem: the phoenixes have lain dormant for thousands of years. Can they stay alive long enough to save their world?

The key to saving the Realms lies in waking the phoenix.

Don’t miss the first book, Breaking the Nexus, available now on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and in paperback!

Breaking the Nexus will be on SALE for $2.99 March 8-11 only!

Sneak Peek Sunday - 3/3!!

Hello lovelies!! Today is another exciting edition of Sneak Peek Sunday! Today's edition is extra special because it's my birthday :D I bring you another sneak peek at my upcoming novella, Warrior Unleashed. Hope you enjoy!

Saia struggled to bring her erratic breathing and racing heart under control. By the gods, she wasn’t sure her muscles would ever stop quivering enough to hold her weight, but she didn’t mind. Her body still hummed with the last vestiges of ecstasy and although she was loathe to turn her mind to more serious matters, they couldn’t avoid the subject any longer.
“No more, kitty. We’re going to end up spontaneously combusting at this rate.”
“Not a bad way to go in my opinion,” he replied, flashing that wicked grin she loved.
“You’re going to get yourself into trouble one of these days.”
“I thought that’s what we just did…twice. If you need me to refresh your memory, I’ll be happy to oblige.”

Sneak Peek Sunday 2-17!!

Hello my lovelies! Are you ready for another sneak peek into my current WIP, tentatively titled Warrior Unleashed? It's my novella featuring sexy panther Chimerae (shifter) Achaius and feisty Gaelen (wind) Sorceri Saia. My tentative release date is toward the end of March :) Enjoy!

Saia was so lost in thought she didn’t notice that Achaius had halted until his arms snaked around her and pulled her flush against his body. “What—“ she began, at a loss for words as his warmth seeped into her, tempting her to melt further into his embrace..

“You were about to take a tree branch to that pretty neck of yours.”

“Oh, thanks.” Confused, she glanced around, her mind trying to process her surroundings. While it probably would be easier to think if she put some distance between them, she was loathe to part from the waves of heat rolling off of him. The man was a furnace, a delicious furnace. And now you’re losing your mind.

A massive cliff loomed over them a few paces ahead, flanked by ancient trees stretching toward the heavens. “Achaius, if you brought me here to show me some rocks and shrubbery, I’m not impressed.”

Sneak Peek Sunday!

Ready for a sneak peek into my upcoming novella, Warrior Unleashed? Enjoy!

“That’s a bit rude to say that to an innocent sparring post, don’t you think?”
Wonderful, just what she needed to make this day even better. What in the Seven Hells was he doing here? The amusement in the deep voice only served to rile her up further.

I know, I know I barely gave you anything :) Stop by later this week for more! Click the image below to find the rest of the blogs participating!

Unable to resist pushing him a little further, she brushed her lips against his skin once more. “Stop what?” Sha gazed up at him, the heat of his eyes making her melt. Those metallic eyes shifted and swirled unlike anything she’d ever seen, even among the Metallum Sorceri she’d met over the years.
He let her body slide down his, hands settling on her hips, holding her body close against him for a moment. “You’re playing with fire,” he warned.
“That’s alright, lucky for you, I’m an Infernum.”
“Really? And what does that mean?” Although he towered over her, his head was bent and she thought she might be able to reach his mouth if she stretched
“It means I happen to like playing with fire,” she whispered, standing on her tip toes to brush her lips to his.

Exciting news to announce!

Hello lovelies! I have some very exciting news about my Mythrian Realm series. I've been stagnant lately and have had trouble with Waking the Phoenix. One issue I've had is setting up the back story for a pivotal plot point (yay alliteration!). Well, I've discovered the perfect solution thanks to the help of my wonderful muse, Carrie Fort.

I will be releasing a novella early this spring (shooting for March but no guarantees) featuring Sha's half brother. This will allow me to introduce the necessary back story without bogging down Waking the Phoenix.

This novella will be set entirely in the Mythrian Realm and will have the same fast pace you all loved from Breaking the Nexus as well as magic, mayhem, and sexy shifters. Yes, you read that right. Our hero is a Chimerae :) The heroine? Half Chimerae, half wind Sorceri. I bet you'd like to know their names, wouldn't you?

My hero will be Achaius Rilke and my heroine will be Saia Makan.

I look forward to bringing you more details soon!

Happy Endings Giveaway Hop!

Happy endings romance giveaway hop

#HEGIVEAWAY

Tell your happy ending story!

The Happy Endings Giveaway Hop was organized by Reading Romances!

There are so many happy endings in my life because an ending is just the beginning of a new experience. My wonderful, loving husband is responsible for many of these happy endings, from the day we first met in our college dorm basement to the day we were married. I've never been more happy in my life than the day I married my husband and we officially began our lives together united as one (we'd been together for almost 7 years though when we got married!).

Most recently, he gave me one of the most memorable happy endings: The day I finished my first book. I still remember sobbing hysterically when I saw the book go live on Amazon. Without his love and encouragement, the many times he reassured me that people would read and love my book, and his endless patience when I said "Just a few more minutes, I want to finish this scene," I may never have fulfilled my dream of becoming a writer.

Excerpt:

“You’re not still afraid of the dark, are you? You’ll give yourself a migraine concentrating so hard.”
For someone with telepathic abilities that supposedly only worked on animals, he had the most obnoxious ability to read her mind. “I am not afraid of the dark; I just happen to like seeing where I’m going. Besides, need I remind you of your fear of chickens?”
“I’ll have you know chickens can be quite vicious when pissed off. And you have a spider on your shoulder.”
Sha prided herself on her calm, rational reaction. Rather than slapping at her shoulder, she took a deep breath…and vaporized the offensive creature. Seeing that Luca had gone still, she frowned. “What’s wrong?”
The instant the words left her mouth, she realized the energies emanating from the Gateway had changed, growing stronger. There was an undercurrent of dark magic that troubled her, but before she could explore it further, alarms rang in her mind. “Shit, the Gateway’s destabilizing.”
His mouth settled into a grim line. “Call for backup.”
Trusting Luca to watch her back, she tried to locate the mental thread that ran to their commander. An invisible fist punched her mind, driving shards of glass into her brain. Mother Night, that hurt.“Sha!” The sharp tone penetrated the haze of pain and gave her something to latch onto long enough to come out of her stupor.
“Fine, I’m fine. Raging migraine to end all migraines, but it’ll pass.”
“I take it you couldn’t reach the commander?”
She bit back the bitchy retort that welled up. It had been a fair question after all. “Something just attacked, something strong to have gotten through my shields. I think we’re on our own for now.”
“Do we keep going or head back for reinforcements?”
“If that Gate falls, it will rip open part of the Nexus. Nothing like that has happened for centuries so it’s hard to predict the consequences.”

 Excerpt:

As they halted at a red light, he decided to break the silence. “Don’t you have big cities where you’re from?”
“Oh we do, but it’s so different. I’m not used to such height and all that glass. We have tall buildings, though nothing on this scale. Part of it is to allow plenty of sky space for our flying creatures.”
“You mean birds?”
“Birds, gryphons, dragon—all sorts of creatures really.”
Despite all he’d seen this morning, he just couldn’t wrap his head around that. “Gryphons and dragons…seriously?”
“Yes, I—” Sha’s words cut off, her body tensing as if to prepare for an attack. “Something’s coming,” she warned as a piercing shriek reverberated through the air.
“Do you know what that was?” He scanned the surroundings, looking for the source of the scream. It was like nothing he’d ever heard and had chilled him to the bone. It sounded neither human nor animal; whatever it was, he doubted it was friendly.
Another shriek, this one louder, longer…closer. People on the streets began running, fear stark on their faces. A black mass blocked one of the street lamps that had turned on mere minutes earlier, but he couldn’t distinguish any features. “Sha! Do you know what’s out there?” She sat frozen, her eyes closed in intense concentration.
“Mother Night, it can’t be.”
Another shriek, even closer, this time accompanied by the terrified shouts of innocent bystanders. Connor reached over and shook her shoulder in an attempt to break through to her. “Now’s not exactly the time for disbelief. What the hell is coming for us?”
Her eyes met his, outward calm masking a hint of fear. “A banshee.”
Oh, shit. So much for luck being on their side.
