Interview with Leslie Drennan!!

Hello my lovelies and welcome to The Lindsay Show's very last interview of 2012!! Can you believe the year is over?! I'm going to post a reflection post later but for now let's focus on the fantabulous Leslie Drennan!

Interview

Thank you so much for joining me, Leslie! I'm so excited that you're going to close out this amazing, whirlwind year :) When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I was in the fifth grade when I realized I wanted to write. I was reading a book called “A Taste of Blackberries” and after our reading time each day we had to reflect on what we read in our reading journal. My teacher, Mrs. Phyllis Gilbert used my journal excerpt as an example to the class, reading it aloud and telling me how well my writing was. It was right then that I knew being an author was what I was meant to do. She really helped shape my future.

That is so awesome that you know exactly when you fell in love with writing and especially that you had a teacher who encouraged you! What has been the most difficult part about being a writer?

I think the most difficult part of being a writer for me is separating my personality to create each different character that reflects different parts of myself. Sometimes it is hard to accept that each of us has a dark side or an inner bad guy so to speak, but when you’re writing you have to think like that person would think.

I could see how that could be difficult, but I think it could also be a really fun challenge. Who are your favorite authors?

I love James Patterson, not only does he really write captivating material, but I have to give him props for always having something in production! The guy is a machine! I would have to say that I jumped on the “Twilight” train so Stephanie Meyer really got me with that series. I like to read P.C. and Kristin Cast materials. Honestly I really keep myself away from reading when I am writing because I want to make sure I am not influenced by other materials when creating mine. I want to make 100% sure that all of my ideas are original and not duplicated or tied to anything else so I’m really not familiar with a lot of new stuff out there at the moment.

There's nothing wrong with liking Twilight :) What authors inspire you?

As previously stated I am not only a fan of James Patterson’s materials, but I am inspired by him and his devotion to being an author as a whole. You can tell he has a passion for what he does by always having new ideas and keeping something in the works all the time. Another author that is not only a favorite but an inspiration to me is author, Bob Larson. I have read and re-read some of his materials and they just get better with each read. I feel like I can relate to the exact emotions and events he writes about even if I’ve never experienced them. I think that is what makes a project a true success is being able to capture someone and make them feel exactly what you are conveying with your words that make up your story.
James Patterson is a fantastic author to inspire you. Do you like to plan your scenes out or do you just wing it?

The funny thing about this is that I always start with a game plan, but inevitably it always gets thrown to the side. I guess my creative juices don’t get started flowing until I start my actual writing process and then I end up changing things and adding in details and events that I’d never even had planned to begin with. In the end I suppose it is safe to say I plan and wing it. LOL.

LOL that's awesome :) It's great that you're able to let go of your game plan and not fight your characters. What type of books do you like to read?

My favorite books to read are not necessarily any specific type but it is how they are written. I don’t like to read a story, I like to become involved with the story. I love to feel like I’m really there so authors that can grab my attention and provide enough detail that I can create a movie in my own mind as I read, making me feel like I’m really there are the types I like to read. It’s also what I try to provide for my own readers.
Love that system of finding stories! What do you like to do in your free time?

Well aside from spending as much time as I possibly can with my family and of course catching up on my favorite t.v. shows I will admit I love to go do karaoke. I was a musician for years and at one point even had a contract to be a singer so I never totally let it go. I still have some of my own original music but the music industry is tough and I can’t see myself being able to keep up with a music career and be a mother. That’s what is so appealing about being an author as well, it allows me to make my own dreams come true without losing a moment with my family.
You are far, far braver than I am. I"m too shy to do karaoke :) Where is your favorite place to vacation?

Honestly, I am not much of a vacationer… mostly I am a staycationer! LOL…. But if I had to choose I would say my favorite is going on a cruise to somewhere warm and sunny! I don’t like the cold and snow is just not my thing so I am all about the warm temperatures. Besides, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a cruise?
I hate the cold too so I'm all about warm climates! Never been on a cruise though *pout* Do you have any special holiday traditions?

Every year on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas we all go to my Granny’s house (who is the world’s most phenomenal cook I might add!) and spend time with family. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, even though the food is always abundant, but in our family we believe love is spelled T I M E. You never know what tomorrow holds so we try to spend as much time together as we can.

I think that's absolutely wonderful :) Why did you choose to write a coming of age story?

It’s kind of funny you should ask, I actually wrote “Enigma” because I’d read everything in my house while I was unemployed when my company went out of business and decided to take a stab at entertaining myself by testing the waters of my own creativity. I knew I loved fantasy/fiction and after thinking about it I wanted to put a spin on it and do something no one else had done yet taking it in a completely different direction.

I'm so sorry you had lost your job but it sounds like you made sure everything worked out for you! What has been the most fun about working on your books?

The most fun I’ve had with this actually comes in the form of getting to know myself. I think many of us go through life never really having the opportunity to do that, but as writers we have that opportunity more than most. As previously stated I base each of my characters reflecting different parts of my own personality, so in doing that I was able to learn what makes me vulnerable, my strengths, weaknesses, and even more as I really introduced me to my true self.

That's one of the best responses I've ever heard <3 What has been the hardest scene for you to write?

The hardest scene for me to write was describing the funeral for Mattie’s parents. I can’t imagine what that would be like at thirty much less thirteen. I really hated to have to think about what it would be like to lose my parents and the thought itself is just heartbreaking!
That does sound like it would be incredibly heartbreaking to write. Do you have any favorite characters?

I do have a favorite. I have to say that Avan is my favorite because he is willing to do whatever it takes for Mattie. Not only does he protect her and want the best for her safety measures but his love for her is innocent and pure. I wrote his character not only as the crush for girls and women to think of as “dreamy” but also to provide a true example of modern day chivalry. I wanted girls and women to see an example of how a real man is supposed to treat a female in hopes that many will look for those chivalrous qualities rather than being okay with lowering their standards and accepting being treated badly just for the sake of having someone or going for the guy with the fast car and lots of money that tries to influence them in the wrong ways.

Can I just say that I adore the name Avan? I've never heard it before. He sounds like a wonderful character and now I'm dying to read this book even more. Tell us about Mattie.
Mattie starts out as your average teenage girl enjoying high school and living life as happily as she can without her parents. She is the kind of kid you never have to worry about getting into trouble for the most part. Unfortunately, her best friend is the queen of peer pressure and is determined to take some of Mattie’s innocence away. Upon finding out what she really is her entire world changes instantly as she has to accept that a normal teenager is the farthest thing from what she is. She is faced with some cold hard truths that there is no way of getting around and has to evolve into who she was meant to be all while currently being trapped in a human body she was born into.

The teenage years can be so hard and that is a common struggle many teens face. How did you come up with the premise for Enigma?
I’d read a great deal of fantasy/fiction and where there were small differences here and there it just seemed like at the time everyone was kind of going in the same direction. I wanted to take what interested me and push it in a totally new direction that no one I knew of had pushed it so far. I wanted to create the impossible scenario showing how it became possible. I wanted to do something that would stand out and separate itself from everything of its kind, a unique masterpiece.
See? Now I just want to read this even more! Tell us more about the role of the angels In the story. Are there any other supernatural elements?

The angels in the story all have missions that they must fulfill. Mattie requires the most elite of guardians created specifically for this task alone where the main mission of the dark angels is to obtain her. The battle of good and evil weighs on Mattie’s existence. There are supernatural elements in the different powers that the angels have. Heavenly angels and Dark angels have very different sets of powers. Mattie actually has many more than either one considering she is the offspring of both a Heavenly and a Dark angel.
I've always loved angels and it sounds like you've taken a fresh approach to them. So excited to get my hands on this book! Will there be any more books featuring Mattie? If so, can you tell us what to expect?

“Enigma” is actually the first of a series so there will definitely be more books with her featured in them! This series will take you through twists and turns you never expected! Just when you think you have it figured out you will encounter more that you never expected so put your seatbelts on and stay tuned! There is action, suspense, romance, madness, insanity, treason, mystery, and so much more!
That makes me ecstatic to hear you say that! I'm beyond excited to read your work :) What's next for you?

Well, I can assure you I’ll never stop writing. LOL. As for books what is coming next is the second book of the “Angel’s Promise” series entitled “Exile”. It is nearly completed to send over to production so that is my next move!
So excited to hear that!! Well lovely, we are out of time and I've got a Facebook party to get ready for :) Before you go, is there anything else you want your readers to know?

Yes, I want my readers to know that I don’t desire to ever become someone out of touch with reality or someone who seems out of reach. As an author I want them to also be able to identify with me as a person. I always update my facebook fan page www.facebook.com/angelspromiseseries and twitter @angelspromise1 as well as my author page at www.lesliedrennan.tateauthor.com where I also have links to my blog on word press and ways to email me so I encourage people to get in touch and find out more about the series.

Thank you so very much for joining me today Leslie! I've loved getting to know you better and learning more about your book :) Good luck in 2013 and Happy New Year!!

Blog Talk Radio ~ My First Show!

Hello my lovelies! Listen in as I join in on my very first Blog Talk Radio show hosted by the fantabulous Bennet Pomerantz!

Listen to internet radio with TheWriteStuff on Blog Talk Radio

Interview with R.B. Wood!!

It's almost the New Year, lovelies!! Can you believe it?! Where did the time go? I digress lol. Joining me today on The Lindsay Show is the amazing R.B. Wood!! Let's all give him a warm welcome shall we? I promise I don't bite ;)

Interview

Welcome! I'm so glad you could join me today :) So, when did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve loved stories all my life and have written off and on for a very long time. Back in 2007, my children told me they loved the stories I made up for them and that I should write them down. That little kick in the backside was the catalyst to really start plotting out not only a novel but a series.

That's wonderful that your children pushed you to write :) What has been the most difficult part about being a writer?

Being part-time. To be honest, anyone who has ever written knows that this is a tough field that requires a great deal of time and effort to get it right. Writing in my “spare time” can be very frustrating, especially when an idea strikes during ‘the day job.’
Oh yes, it is so hard when you don't have a ton of time to devote to it. Luckily, I'm perfecting the art of covert writing ;) Who are your favorite authors?

H. G. Wells, Neil Gaiman, Caitlín R. Kiernan, J. R. R. Tolkien, Jim Butcher…I could go on.

I adore Jim Butcher! He's one of my all-time favorite authors. What authors inspire you?

See the list above

Haha, fair enough ;) Do you like to plan your scenes out or do you just wing it?

A little of both. When working on a series, the devil is in the details—and I love to sprinkle in hints of “what’s coming.” So I map out scenes, and the over-all arc. But I’m not too strict with it which allows for some creative license. It’s a balance.
That's a wonderful approach. You can't be too rigid in your planning or you start to fight your own characters. What type of books do you like to read?

I love to read most things—for example I have a few books going at the same time at the moment: Cold Days by Jim Butcher, a biography of Neil Armstrong, Subtle Bodies by Peter Dubé, and a beta read for a fellow author.
Ooo I've been meaning to read Cold Days! You're like me, in the middle of a ton of books lol. What do you like to do in your free time?

What is this “free time” of which you speak? Seriously—between my consultancy (‘day job’), writing, my partner and my children, and the pets—not to mention writing—free time is also called five hours of sleep in the evenings.
Lol I know right? I keep hoping one day someone will tell me the secret to obtaining the elusive free time! Where is your favorite place to vacation?
Any place I haven’t visited before. My partner, Tina and I just took our first vacation together in years and we nipped down to Charleston S.C. for a week. It had everything we like to do—historical places to explore, great restaurants, wonderful culture and (of course) was some place we’d never visited.
Love it! Since we just had Christmas so I must ask...do you have any special holiday traditions?

Nothing too extraordinary. Traditional tree, cards and dinner. I tend to like to watch Christmas specials – from Miracle on 34th Street through to A Christmas Story.
I've always been a fan of simpler traditions myself :) Why did you choose to write dark fantasy?

I’m a huge fan of the genre and I just think stories about heroes and monsters are great escapism. It’s such a large palette to paint words on…and it’s enormous fun.
Well since my own book is a dark fantasy romance, I'm definitely interested in your work :) What has been the most fun about working on your books?

Creating a world, building characters and weaving story ideas that I want to tell within a framework I built. Most satisfying.
I find that's one of my favorite parts too! What has been the hardest scene for you to write?
Unfortunately for the fans, not one you’ll be reading for a little while. A sex scene in the next book needed to walk a fine line between erotic and dangerous without coming off like some sort of 50 Shades porn.
Ok now I'm really intrigued LOL. Can't wait to see what you mean ;) Do you have any favorite characters?

Oh, Symon Bryson is my absolute favorite character. I spent a lot of time with him, his back story and where he needs to go development-wise. I also enjoy torturing him a bit.
Haha who doesn't love torturing their characters a little? ;) Tell us about The Prodigal’s Foole. How did you come up with that title?

It stems from the whole The Arcana Chronicles series concept I developed back in 2007-2008. Novels based on the major arcana of the tarot, with short stories based on the minor arcana. Since the Fool card represents Symon, and the book is his return back into the magical fold of the Church, The Prodigal’s Foole just worked. The second in the series—The Young Practitioner—is based on “The Mage” card.
I love Tarot so now I'm even more interested in your books! How did you come up with the premise for The Prodigal’s Foole?
I needed to start the series some place—and believe me there are many versions of “the beginning” I’ve worked through. But starting with “The return” of my main character after a decade-long self-imposed exile lead to a lot of questions—and I liked that.
I can certainly see how that would give you a great opportunity for a starting place. Tell us about the future books and when can we expect the next one?

The next novel will hopefully come out in 2013 and is called The Young Practitioner. Here is the blurb:
Fame is a deadly mistress.

Symon Bryson has rejoined his magic practitioner friends, only to find himself in virtual lockdown after multiple assassination attempts from unknown assailants.

While members of his team are traveling the world in search of Lucifer’s whereabouts, Symon is left to deal with a mother and her young son seeking the sanctuary of the Church. But when the boy shows signs of dangerous and formidable magic, the search for clues to the source of the child's power will take Symon on a dark and deadly journey from the sands of World War II Libya through to the boardrooms of the 21st century.

When all that stands between Heaven and Hell is magic, more than faith will be tested.
A few companion short stories are in the works as well: Portents (based on the Eight of Swords) is a prequel to The Prodigal’s Foole. The next story is from Symon’s ex-lover’s perspective and takes place right after TPF. It’s called Sacrifice and is based on the Ace of Wands. A third short called Outcast is based on the Five of Pentacles and tells the story of an interesting character you’ll meet in The Young Practitioner

I freaking love that blurb. Write faster so I can have the book! LOL What's next for you?

Writing, working, loving and laughing. Then I’ll wake up and do it all again tomorrow.

There is a short story coming out in an anthology in the first month or two in 2013 that I’m excited about. Next phase of The Arcana Chronicles is in full swing, I have a time travel novel I’ve been playing with for a while now and a collaboration project with a fellow fantasy author in Australia. And a few episodes of my podcast The Word Count.

Well unfortunately we are out of time, but I've loved learning more about you and having yet another book to add to my TBR pile! Thank you so much for joining me!

The Prodigal's Foole...Buy it Now!

A man can run from his past ... but not his future.

Symon Bryson lives in self-imposed exile until Monsignor DuBarry goes missing and not even the most adept of the magic practitioners can determine the reason for the abduction. The clues lie buried in the past amidst epic battles and horrific losses but reliving that failed mission uncovers fresh challenges and fearsome threats that reunite his old team. Symon must deal with his own hidden demons and confront the menace that threatens the delicate balance of power. When the darkest of all evils lures Symon into springing a long-planned trap, an unsuspecting world will confront the unthinkable.

When all that stands between Heaven and Hell is magic, more than faith will be tested.

Interview with Mimi Sebastian!!

Good morning lovelies! I hope you've had a wonderful holidays and that you're not in too much of a food coma from all of the Christmas food :) Today I'm welcoming the fantabulous Mimi Sebastian to The Lindsay Show!

Interview

I'm so glad you could join me! Hope you had a wonderful holiday :) Let's dive right in, shall we?When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I have journals starting back from when I was ten or twelve years old. I used to write a lot of poetry and short stories. Writing has always been a part of me, but I never sat down to write a book until a couple of years ago. So, I guess, I discovered I wanted to be a writer then.

Love it! That's pretty much how I was :) What has been the most difficult part about being a writer?

Balancing my day job, family, and writing. I basically have two careers now. It’s insane. And now, building an author platform/online presence. It’s tough because these days you can’t just be a writer. Somehow, that has translated into being a marketing specialist, which I’m terrible at.

I couldn't agree more! When I set out to write a book initially, I thought 'hey I write a book and it magically will be awesome!' Yeah not so much LOL. I knew before I started putting myself out there in June I'd have to be a PR wizard but I never knew how hard it would be!! Who are your favorite authors?

Some of my favorite Urban Fantasy authors include Stacia Kane and Jim Butcher. I have to mention Anne Rice because, when you think about it, she’s really one of the first, in modern times, with Lestat. I also like Joyce Carol Oates, and, right now, Bill Willingham who writes the wonderful Fables comic books, taking fairytale characters and bringing them into our world. He did this way before the tv shows, etc., and he does an amazing job of breathing new life into these characters and giving them these incredible personalities. I mean, Cinderella is basically the Fables superspy, a James Bond type. And he doesn’t limit his reach to the traditional characters, but also explores the Arabian Knights stuff, Japanese fables, etc.

Those are some fantastic authors :) Seriously love that you say Cinderella is the Fables super spy LOL. What authors inspire you?

I’m actually inspired quite a bit by horror authors: Ray Bradbury, H.P. Lovecraft, Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Stephen King, Clive Barker, Dean Koontz. And Bram Stoker. I mean if you read Dracula, some of his writing blows me away. Dracula says to Jonathan Harker: It is old, and has many memories, and there are bad dreams for those who sleep unwisely.  Horror writers are good with creating mood and atmosphere because that’s an important part of imparting the fear. I try to incorporate that in my Urban Fantasy, I mean, we are talking about zombies and other supernatural beings. That’s creepy. I’m waiting for that great horror story idea to pop in my head so I can write it.

Those are such amazing authors, they must be a wealth of inspiration for you! Do you like to plan your scenes out or do you just wing it?

I wing it first. I write the core of the scene first, that bit of dialog or interaction between the characters, or internalization if it’s a one character scene, that gets to the heart of the conflict for that scene, then I fill in the rest later.

Woot! Always love meeting my fellow pantser :) What type of books do you like to read?

I’ll read just about anything if it sounds like a good story. I do enjoy a good romance J, both paranormal and historical. Horror, but good atmospheric stuff, not torture porn stuff. I recently read some Lisa Gardner and think she does an amazing job with writing suspense. I enjoy a good fantasy read, have read Tolkien, and the Terry Goodkind Sword of Truth series among others. I’m also a big comic book geek as noted above. I’m going to start reading the Brian Lumley Necroscope books. I don’t know why I haven’t read them yet, given they’re about a necromancer. And love a good nonfiction survival story like The Savage Mountain, about an expedition that went to hell trying to climb the K2 mountain in 1953. I think I find reading about the combination of sheer will and ingenuity that pushes someone to survive under such extreme conditions.

I adore how diverse your interests are. My are sadly not nearly as diverse and I probably miss out on some wonderful stories. What do you like to do in your free time?

What? LOL. I play with my four year old. He has such a great imagination, hmmmm, maybe he’ll be a writer. Exercise. Being a writer is tough on the body, sitting and writing.

OMG, kids have the most amazing imaginations! I wish I could bottle it up for when I need a new story idea lol. Where is your favorite place to vacation?

I love the beach. I grew up in Florida with an abundance of water, and now live in Phoenix, AZ, the complete opposite. So we take trips to see the ocean, either in California, Mexico, or Florida. The ocean soothes my soul.

Squeeeee! Love the beach!! Sorry, I'm in landlocked PA so whenever I see beach I spazz just a little bit hehehe.  Do you have any special holiday traditions?

LOL. This year we were lucky to put up a tree. Just spending time with family, drinking hot cocoa. We’re going to see The Hobbit. Can’t wait.

You mean I wasn't the only one who kept putting off putting it up? LOL! Good to know ;)  Why did you choose to write urban fantasy?

I think Urban Fantasy chose me J. But I’ve always been fascinated by the strange and unusual and like exploring how supernatural characters deal with living in the “normal” world and how being supernatural gives that person glimpses into the strange and unusual, which I love.

Love it! That's sort of what I do. Don't you think life would be so much more exciting if the supernatural coexisted with us in reality?! Why did you choose to write about a necromancer? Can you tell us more about the necromancer?

I became really interested in writing about a paranormal character that has this crazy power, control of the dead, and how that affects her humanity. And that’s what I’m trying to explore in the books. Ruby’s (my necromancer protagonist) power almost has a mind of its own and influences her in negative ways. And there are definitely limits set, lines that a necromancer should never cross, because it warps them, so it’s fun to explore what happens to her when she crosses those lines. In my mythology, without giving too much away, necromancers were born from the interference of the demons in the human realm. They have the ability to reanimate the dead,  create zombies and revenants. Those are the basic powers, but I expand beyond those abilities, which plays into the necromancer/demon mythology, but that’s about all I can say.

Fantastic! There just aren't enough necromancers in books today so I love the creativity of having one as your protagonist :) What has been the most fun about working on your books?

Those moments of inspiration when that idea comes to you and everything clicks. Also, coming up with those fun, quirky ideas. I have a sentient deck of Tarot cards in my book. That was a fun scene to write because “her” personality was very clear to me. And I enjoy editing. I’m a “cleaner” by nature. I have to empty my e-mails on a regular basis, get rid of clutter in the house. When I edit, I look at it as getting rid of the clutter in the manuscript.

You know, you're so right about when everything clicks. A sentient deck of Tarot cards?! Now I have to read this for sure lol. As for being a cleaner, how about you come over to my house sometime? I have plenty of clutter I need help with lmao. What has been the hardest scene for you to write?

Probably the final confrontation scene with the bad guy and explaining how Ruby used her power to defeat him and justify the actions she took, which result in serious repercussions for Ruby in Book Two.

Ooo I'm intrigued. Note to self, start this book ASAP! Do you have any favorite characters?

One is a vampire named Lysander. He is attracted to Ruby and that may come into play later, but one of the things I’ve enjoyed doing with my characters is to not make them black or white, but to explore the gray areas. They all have to make horrible choices based their allegiances to their own supernatural race and past events. Lysander is going to change throughout the series, whether it’s for the better or worse remains to be seen. And he and Ewan have some delicious clashes J in the second book. I really also love my revenant, Adam. A revenant is basically an uber-zombie with control of their mental faculties and very dangerous. He’s pretty pissed off when Ruby reanimates him. Even though he was murdered, death gave him peace from a terrible event. So it sucks when he wakes from death and is once again confronted with the horrible emotions from that trauma. And I can’t leave out my hero, Ewan. He’s so sexy (of course, right?) and tortured. He’s totally Alpha demon, but he has always desired Ruby from afar, and I think it’s quite wonderful how he treats her with incredible sensitivity. Ruby is not a kick ass heroine who wears stilettos, but she is strong and independent and very powerful. He tries to respect her space as much as he can while also trying his best to protect her and get in her pants!!

Can I just say that all of your characters sound so fantastic? How did you come up with the premise for the Necromancer Series?

It came from the characters. It’s very character driven. I’m quite the pantser when I start writing. I tend to plot later. But I knew I wanted demons and for Ruby’s love interest to be a demon. That got the ball rolling. So where do they demons come from? Not hell, because they’re not really demons, which leads to other interesting things about them that I can’t tell you. And I wanted the revenant Ruby raised to be a witch, so that led to other questions. Her best friend is also a witch, so what role do the witches play in all this? So it all snowballed from the characters.

I think that's awesome and damn you for making me dying to read this now! Hah, I made a funny! Get it dying? Necromancer? Ok sorry, I'm not medicated yet ;) Can you tell us more about the world in which The Necromancer’s Seduction is set?

It’s set in San Francisco, current time, but much of its centers around how a race of demons have influenced the human realm, including Ruby. I have vampires, witches, the usual suspects, but while they are all part of the chess board, the story really centers around Ruby and the demons. I also have some fun, and some nasty, demon creatures interspersed throughout and they were fun to write. The first book contains brief forays into the demon realm, but the second and third books will have more scenes in the demon realm, and those were interesting to write, to create another world that’s different.

I love that it's set in San Francisco because I don't get to read too many books set in that city. Usually it's LA, New York, Chicago, etc. When will The Necromancer’s Seduction be released?

Around June of 2013, hopefully sooner.

Squeee!! *Races to calendar to mark it down* How many books are you planning in your series and what can we expect from the series?

Three books. The next one is the Necromancer’s Betrayal and third one is The Necromancer’s Redemption. We can expect betrayal, redemption, LOL, more angst, zombie rats… J But ultimately for Ruby to learn more about the history of necromancers and how that will affect her as a supernatural person and her relationships with the people she cares about.

LOL love those titles! Wait, zombie rats?! Eeek! What's next for you?

I have a draft of a pirate historical I’d like to get out next year because I love me some pirate swagger, and I have an idea for another Urban Fantasy series that draws from Japanese mythology. Can’t wait to start writing that one.

Wow, you're going to be on my must buy list, I can just feel it :) Well, we are unfortunately out of time which is so unfair considering now I'm dying to hear about that pirate historical lol. Anything else you want your readers to know?

Still being an avid reader myself, I appreciate good characters and I hope that’s what people take from my stories.

Thank you so much for stopping by Mimi! It has been a blast learning more about you and your book *hugs*

Thanks so much for the interview. I enjoyed it immensely. I’m amazed by your energy and enthusiasm! And all the best to everyone for a great 2013!

Awww thank you sweetie! Happy New Year!!

The Necromancer's Seduction

She has never feared the walking dead. It’s the power required to reanimate the dead that startles her, seduces her. The power that dwells inside her…and is growing.

For Professor Ruby Montagne, being a necromancer has brought her nothing but heartache, and she walked away from that part of her life long ago. However, her quiet existence in San Francisco is shattered when she stumbles upon the body of a slain witch, and the supernatural community insists she transform him into a revenant to track the killer. But his murder was just the beginning, and Ruby soon realizes that the stakes are higher than anyone can imagine—and that revenants have nasty minds of their own.

Now demonic creatures have escaped into the human world, and zombies once again walk the streets. For humanity’s sake, Ruby forms an unlikely alliance with a witch, a zombie, and Ewan March, a demon warrior who sets her senses on fire. She’s always distrusted demons and Ewan is no exception, but circumstances push them closer together, and Ruby not only finds it harder to resist him, she isn’t sure she even wants to. But she suspects his job of patrolling the portal separating humans and demons conceals a dark and deadly past that may consume them both.

With events spiraling out of control, Ruby unravels a plot that not only threatens the human and demon realms, but puts Ruby’s very soul in jeopardy. Because when the dead walk, no one is safe. Especially Ruby.

Mimi Sebastian

I raised myself on books and the strange and unusual with an unhealthy dose of Scooby Doo. Loving angst-filled romance thrown in the mix, I decided to blend all those elements in a steamy mix in my first Urban Fantasy series. I also love pirates and have a pirate book coming out next year.

I spent two years in the Ivory Coast with the Peace Corps and love to introduce tid- bits from my experiences in my writing. I'm a member of Romance Writers of America and the Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal chapter of RWA. I attempt to balance writing with my day career and family in the desert of Phoenix, AZ.
