This gorgeous rendering (as well as the cover) was designed by none other than the fantabulous Miranda Stork! 

Tara took the tale of Snow White and turned it completely on its head. Now it's a steampunk masterpiece with some of my favorite characters of all time :) You met Asher a few days ago (if you didn't what are you waiting for??) so now I present George!

The sudden bank of the airship threw her off her feet and George stumbled into the room as she was shoved from behind. The door was slammed shut behind her and she looked up to see the cold beauty of Xenobia Cavendish’s face.

“You have gotten yourself into quite a pickle, my niece.” She stood from her cushion-lined window seat with a smile and turned to the starboard side wall which was lined with mirrors. Xenobia preened in the expanse of glass, fluffing her hair and observing George from the corner of her eye. George looked back toward the door with a frown. “Don’t worry about them,” Xenobia said, facing her. “They won’t be bothering us. They’ll be taking your little device to the workshop. It will be safely delivered to the Syndicate’s headquarters for further review.”

“It doesn’t work,” George shot back with a lift of her chin. “It’s useless.”

Xenobia’s raven hair shook around her face. “No matter. It will. Or it won’t. Either way, it’s in my possession and that is all that really matters. What I decide to do or not do with it is none of your concern now.” Her eyes narrowed. “You should have brought it to me in the first place. We are family, George.” Her lovely head tilted in thought. “That means something.”

George snorted. “Family? We’re not family. You don’t care about anyone but yourself.”

Xenobia’s hands shifted to her waist and for the first time, George saw the thin scabbard at her side. A rapier. She’d forgotten Xenobia fenced.

“Darling, don’t be trite. You are a Cavendish, like your father.”

“And look where that got him. Dead in an alley. Killed by his own sister.” George’s face was hard. Anger began to build beneath her skin, slowing her blood to a crawl. The sly smile on Xenobia’s face told her she was right. Xenobia had indeed had her father killed. She had no intention of letting her leave this airship alive. With or without the machine. The realization pricked at the back of her mind.

Xenobia laughed, a low, rich sound full of smug satisfaction. “It was unfortunate, but necessary. With him gone, I have been able to grow the Syndicate’s holdings, and with it, amass a great deal of power. Everything has fallen to me. Where it belongs.”

“And what about me?” George countered. “The right of inheritance is clear. If you die, the Syndicate is mine. And the power to break it.”

Xenobia scoffed, “Foolish girl. You should know that if you want it, you’ll have to kill me.”

George’s lip curled in a dark sneer as a steely resolve anchored her limbs. “So be it.”

Now can you guess what fairy tale I chose? Pretty obvious I drew some inspiration from The Little Mermaid, but this is nothing like any story you've ever read. Nerissa is a selkie caught in transformation, a siren who lures men to their doom seeking revenge against the man who tried to murder her on her wedding day. Don't worry though, she's not bad, but she is a bit wicked :)

Without warning, his mouth closed over hers. Hot, hungry, demanding. He gave her no room to escape, drove all thought from her brain as his tongue swept into her mouth. Despite the penetrating chill of the water, unexpected heat flashed through her body, eliciting a low moan from her. Unable to restrain herself, she pressed closer now fighting him for control of the kiss.

At some point his hands had gentled their grip on her arms and one slid up into her head. His fingers speared through her hair, angling her head back to take the kiss even deeper. Lyulf pinned her into place, locking her against a body lean and hardened. More, she had to have more. Her hands rose to grasp his head, still fighting the losing battle for dominance. She trailed her nails lightly down his chest, coaxing a light shiver from him.

Wait, what the hell was she doing? Rational thought slammed her back into the present moment and she wrenched free from his grasp. She struggled for her composure. "You, you had no right to do that." Was that husky, breathless voice truly her own?

A slow smile spread across his lips. "Really now? You didn't seem to mind it just a second ago."

She started to stammer a denial but caught it before she made even more of a fool of herself. "It's not going to happen again."

Interview with Hunter S Jones!!

Welcome to another installment of The Lindsay Show with the fantabulous Hunter S Jones!! First of all, thank you Hunter for the suggestion on the name of these segments :D I'm so glad you could join me today! Your debut, Fables of the Reconstruction looks so damn good and I can't wait to read it.

Now I hope you've all got your coffee ready, let's get started!

It's so lovely to have you on the The Lindsay Show, Hunter! Tell me, when did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I have always been a writer. There was no official date or announcement. My family says that I always said I would write a book someday, so now I have. Fables is my shot in the dark, so to speak.

Wow I love that! Interestingly, my family says that I always said I would marry someone rich. Luckily I grew out of that mindset ;) What has been the most difficult part about being a writer?

The most difficult part of writing is taking an idea from telling to showing, which is the exact opposite of how things are done in the real world.

That is so true and it's something I'm still a little shaky on myself. Who are your favorite authors?

There are so many great authors and so many I idolize, collect and admire. Here’s my current favs, my author crushes… Livia Ellis. Her debut release ‘Memoir of a Gigolo’ is outstanding. She had me at gigolo. Tara Stogner Wood and I have real chemistry, too.  She’s sexy.  A.m. Schulz and I have a rock & roll thing going and I’m a big fan of his. 

I still haven't had a chance to read Memoir of a Gigolo but I adore that title. Tara is fantabulous and has been a huge help to me and my writing. What authors inspire you?

Part of the inspiration for ‘Fables of the Reconstruction’ was the book ‘The Crimson Petal and The White’ written by Michel Faber. He wrote the story of Victorian London that I believe Charles Dickens wanted to write but couldn’t because of the standards of his own time. 

Hmm I've never heard of that but I do believe I have even more books to add to my TBR pile. Not a bad thing though :) I also like to find out the process other writers use, so tell me...do you like to plan your scenes out or do you just wing it?

Lindsay, I attempt to plan an outline for everything I write. However, Fables took its own direction, once I started writing. 

Alas, I will never be able to outline. It just doesn't seem to work for me and I generally end up with the book going in its own direction too. I don't know if you actually have time for reading, but what types of books do you like to read?

I love history books, historical autobiographies, books on spirituality and erotica.

Ooo love that mix of genres! What do you like to do in your free time?

Free time? I work out, socialize, listen to music, read, travel. Oh, I start taking drum classes next month. That should be fun. I do not watch TV.

Oh I'm jealous! I've always wanted to learn to play the drums!! That's so cool :) Where is your favorite place to vacation?

Lindsay that is a great question. As you already know, it is difficult for me to have just one favorite of anything. The places I love to visit the most so far are London, New Orleans, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. However, going to my farm in Tennessee rejuvenates me and keeps me grounded. Sometimes it’s good to just get your hands and feet on the earth and connect with your ancestors.

Those are all wonderful locations, especially Barcelona since I've actually been there before lol. I 100% agree about needing to connect with your ancestors. Let's have a little fun now since we're in the Halloween season. What is the craziest Halloween costume you've ever worn?

I dressed up as my boyfriend in college and surprised him at his own Halloween party. I even drew hair on my face and legs . The look on his face when he opened the door and saw me dressed as him - priceless.

Oh man, I'd have loved to see his face! Going along with the Halloween spirit, your release date is November 2nd, the Day of the Dead. What made you pick that date?

November 2, the Day of the Dead, Día de los Muertos, is a National Holiday in Mexico, Central and South America, and on numerous Caribbean Islands. In the Catholic Church it is All Souls Day. I drew so much from Haiti, voodoo and Creole cultures, it only seemed appropriate that I would honor the holiday. Drums beat all night long on November 2 in Haiti, so that sounds pretty rock and roll, doesn’t it?

Definitely sounds rock and roll! Love it :) So, why did you choose to write a paranormal erotica?

The genre chose me.

Aww you're going to just leave it there? Ah well, I guess a girl's gotta have some mystery! What has been the most fun about working on Fables?

The most fun has been the writing process itself. I have never been allowed to let my imagination run free. It’s been an amazing trip. I’ve met so many talented, new friends that write – such as you. It’s just been great. 

Now you're making me blush :) I feel the exact same way *hugs* I love what I've read about Fables! How did you come up with the premise?

Fables started as a short story for a friend I recently lost. I wanted to capture his refinement and beauty in order to create a tribute to him. However, I kept having these crazy dreams about a rockstar and couldn’t figure out what that was all about. Then, I realized Pierre von Minzle was a character that combined the traits of both men,  and the entire zombie story fell into place from there.  

Wow I'm so sorry for your loss, but I'm glad you've been able to use his personality to help create a character for him. Now you can always have a piece of his memory :) There are some really interesting themes in Fables such as Pomba Gira Mysticism, Creole Voodoo, and zombie apocalypse. Can you tell us more about them?

I have always studied religions and am especially drawn to the mysteries of native cultures probably due to the influence of the Cherokees in Tennessee. I ran across Pomba Gira while reading and discovered the ties to Haitian and Creole Voodoo. Their cultures believe in zombies – not the zombies Hollywood has created but the undead - people that are living but have no souls. However, the Hollywood version of zombies had to start somewhere. 

I think I'm going to have to read more about Pomba Gira because this is the first I've heard of it! Do you have any favorite characters from your book?

Pierre von Minzle is beautiful, wicked and surprisingly human for a demon. I am completely enchanted by him.

I haven't even read your book yet, but I think I'm beginning to be enchanted myself :) Now, I've been dying to know...how did you come up with the title Fables of the Reconstruction?

‘Fables of the Reconstruction’ is the title of an alternative album from the 1980s. I love the band that created it so, in a way it’s a tribute to their artistic influence on the world. And, the title happens to be the perfect title for the time frame of my book. 

Very nice! I'll have to check out that album now. All of this talk has me craving your book and I have a feeling I won't be satisfied with just one novel. Are you planning turning this into a series?

There will be two books in the series.  I’m planning to release Book 2, ‘Reconstruction of the Fables’ in March 2013.

Oh that's my birthday month! It'll be a perfect present to myself :) We are almost out of time, but can you tell us what's up next for you?

There are two anthologies, possibly three, in process. I’ll know about the third one in a few days. They haven’t been officially announced however I can tell you the works will have a global appeal.

I can't wait to find out more about those anthologies!! Well Hunter, is there anything else you'd like your readers to know before you go?

Today's comes from the lovely Miranda Stork whose publishing company Moon Rose Publishing is responsible for bringing this awesomeness to the world :) Her story, Reborn City, features Leonid and I must say, I adore the following snippet. But I'll let you judge for yourself...

“Look…if you want me to take the collar off…I will. I don’t want you to be afraid of me. I know this is…well, quite frankly this is not right. But you’re here now, and I want us to try and get on. I will try to repair the damage I’ve caused.”

Nyx’s hand automatically flew to the crystal collar at her slender throat, and she was about to nod, when the words caught in her throat. Frowning, she asked, “But why did you want it on me in the first place? You could have caught me without placing this around me.”

A broad grin spread across Leonid’s face. The bench creaked as he sat back, crossing his legs and spreading his arms along the back. “After what happened when we met, and you’re asking me that question? I wanted to please you. In all ways. The Slipper allows me to give you pleasure beyond pleasure.”

“Oh.” To Nyx’s horror, her response came out almost as a gasp. Red slowly crept across her cheeks, making her feel even more heated than before. Leonid turned his head slowly and chuckled, making her squeeze her legs together.

“It sounds as though you’re not entirely against that idea.” His voice had grown deeper, thick with lust. He couldn’t easily hide how turned on this strange woman had him. So many women had laid themselves at his feet over the years, fawning and pathetic. He wanted a woman who would challenge him, who would be his equal in wit and intelligence. But he also wanted a woman willing to give him control in their bedroom. A combination he had given up hope of ever seeing. But he saw something in Nyx…something beyond her curvaceous figure, or her silky raven locks. Behind the fierce and rebellious nature was something more. A spirit that cried out for control in her unsteady world, a need to let someone else protect her for once.

Nyx bit her lip, and looked as though she was trying to think of something acceptable to say. Leonid gently grasped her chin, and drew her face to his intense gaze. “No, no…say what you first thought of; not what you think you should say. Tell me. Are you against the idea that you might be curious about what that collar-or I-can do?”

Breathing a little heavier than before, Nyx met his eyes and shook her head. “No.” she whispered. “I don’t know why, but…I am curious.”

Sitting in this pose, so close to her plump lips, Leonid could feel her breath on his own. He kept his grip on her chin, and searched her eyes with his own. She fluttered her eyelids closed, then opened them again, letting him see how abandoned her own gaze was becoming. Still afraid she might back away, he leaned in, pressing their mouths together in a chaste kiss. Nyx gave a little moan, and his groin twitched, making him groan in response. The kiss deepened, and he slid his tongue along her lips, parting them to his probing, gently fisting his hand in her hair. To his shock, her own hands flew to his face, stroking his jaw as they drank in each other.

"Damn, you're so beautiful," he groaned.

Smiling, she slowly, teasingly, rocked her hips against his, keeping her palms flat on his chest. As Jasper's fingers roamed the front of her glistening body, she reached down between them and cupped his eager erection in one hand, rubbing the dewy tip with her thumb until Jasper jerked inside her tight grasp. Just before he came, she released him and ignored his guttural cry of protest. Running her tongue up his torso, she bit each of his nipples until he called out her name.

With her nails dug deep enough into the flesh of his hips to leave bruises, she opened her legs and slowly lowered herself onto him, moaning at the feel of his hard body inside hers as she met his thrusts with equal need. The inner wildness that had grown to be a part of her over the last hundred years ached to get out, so she released it willingly. With a toss of her hair, she flipped the strands through the air like a whip and wailed with each thrust from Jasper's narrow hips, riding him like a wild bull. Her back was arched at such an angle that her breasts faced the ceiling, exposing the indents of her ribcage, the protector of her heart.

In full control, using the electric energy from the brutal night storm, she rocked against him, grinding her hip bones into his. When Jasper's hand wandered up her throat she grabbed it and grazed her teeth along his finger, biting down until he gasped. An orgasm ripped through her when his thumb was in her mouth and yet it did little to muffle her scream of ecstasy.

Only the occasional flash of lightning lit the room as he pushed off the bed, still holding her tightly against him. Toe-curling spasms continued to course through her insides, and she gasped as he pushed her hard against the wall. With her heels hooked around his waist, he slammed into her again, and again, and again until the piercing of her nails into his ass brought on his own eruption.

George stared at her bare feet, unable to meet his gaze. “I’ve never seen anyone killed before.”

“You get used to it.” He shifted back in the chair, and she raised her eyes to see him studying her carefully. “I don’t plan on being this forever. Xenobia Cavendish took something from me. I aim to get it back.”

“And you’ll use me to do it,” she said flatly.

“Not in the way you think. But you haven’t protested so far.” He leaned forward and she swore she could feel the heat radiating from his body. Impossible, but she couldn’t fight the snap of interest that sprung to life.

She raised her chin. “Nor do I plan to.”

George watched his irises shift and darken in color, gleaming in the low light. The stark appraisal of his gaze and the intensity of his focus sent a warning shiver down her spine as he approached, the corners of his mouth set in a determined line. There was a vague sense of apprehension, but the tingle in her body was steadily growing stronger and she waited, unsure of his next move. "I have the odd feeling I should brace myself," she said with a half-laugh.

Asher stood from the chair and stepped to the side of the bed, encasing her knees between the hard muscle of his thighs. A long hand reached out and he ran his forefinger along the underside of her jaw, tilting her head upward. "You were warned." His long, dark lashes fluttered as his eyes dropped to her lips. "Yes," he murmured. "Now would be a good time to hang on."

Heat spiraled in a blooming coil, spreading up from her toes, setting every nerve ablaze. "Hang on to what?" she managed. 

He dipped his head, breath hot on her face as his lips ghosted over hers with a spark. "To me."

Ignoring the voice of reason trying to assert itself, she yanked him down when he would have pulled away. Without hesitation, she took his mouth with hers, hungry for his taste, pleased beyond measure that he came willingly. Her heart melted a bit that he would make sure he understood exactly what she wanted. This man would never hurt her and she wondered how she’d ever let herself believe it had been him that day.
