Review of Dead Like Me by Kelly Miller!!!

Hello lovelies! Today I have the pleasure of reviewing a fantabulous mystery called Dead Like Me by Kelly Miller! Kelly approached me to review her book and I really liked the title so I immediately jumped on it. Who doesn't love a good mystery, right? She kindly sent me a paperback (freaking ADORE when authors can provide review copies in paperback) and away I went reading the first page.

I quickly realized several things right off the bat. I was blindly reading with only a blurb to read the book. To give you a little background, I like to open books in the bookstore and read a little bit. I'm even more of a dork because I read the endings first (yes, I'm weird, I know). Ever since reviewing, I've gone into books blind and it is proving to be the greatest idea ever. Why? Because I'm getting to read books I may have walked away from.

You see, I used to only read romance genre and I have always disliked first person books. It's not something I can explain, but it's how I work. Well, Dead Like Me is written in first person AND it's not a romance. And guess what? The world didn't end because I left my comfort zone. In fact....

I freaking LOVED it. So, who wants the review?!

Review of Dead Like Me

About the book:
Publisher: Black Rose Writing
Page Length: 226 pages
My source for the book: Paperback provided by author in exchange for honest review
Genre: Mystery
Price: $7.99 (Kindle), $16.95 (Paperback)
Description (from Amazon.com):

On edge after a two-week mandatory leave, Detective Kate Springer is blindsided when she discovers she shares a link with Tampa's newest murder victim-a troubled teen found strangled and dumped in a remote part of town. The bond between them threatens to expose Detective Springer's past-a past she's been hell bent on keeping secret. When the killer finally emerges from the shadows, Kate's secrets aren't the only thing on the line. So is her life.

WHAT I LIKED:

This was completely beyond the realm of what I normally read. I don't usually care for first person and I generally prefer romance. That being said, this book hooked me from the very first chapter. It was exciting, kept me on the edge of my seat, and I adored the characters. There was plenty of humor and sarcasm to the dialect and Kate's personality was amazing. It is rare that I can so completely drop into a book as fast as I did with Dead Like Me.

Life has been hectic and I couldn't always find time to read, but this was one of those stories that stuck with you, poking at you to squeeze in 10 minutes to find out what happens next. The relationship between Kate and Patrick was very well done and it was obvious how much they cared about each other. All in all, this book had some of the best characters I've read in a while and had a great plot.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:

There really wasn't anything I didn't like. Kate keeps a secret from her partner through the bulk of the story and while I understood her reasons, there were times that I wanted to reach into the pages and shake her and say "Patrick will understand!! Tell him!!" That being said, I'm glad Kelly Miller approached things the way she did.

OVERALL VERDICT: 5/5 Blue Duckies!!!

This was a phenomenal book and I CANNOT wait to see more from this author. If you're looking for a fantastic mystery on par with the mysteries of J.D. Robb (just without the romance), definitely check out this book!!

Interview with Lavinia Urban!!

Hello my lovelies! It's time to welcome another fantabulous author to The Lindsay Show! Before we get to that I 'd just like to thank all of the lovely authors who have requested to appear on my blog <3 I'm now booking spots in August if you can believe it and I still have a number of requests to schedule. I'll find room as often as I can so definitely keep those requests coming!

Now then, everyone say hi to Lavinia Urban!! Grab your coffee or tea and let's get show show on the road :)

Interview

Thank you so much for joining me, Lavinia!! When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I was about 12 years old. I had written a book series by then and lots of poems. I had no idea how to publish, so I went and sent bits of my work to numerous different publishers, via snail mail, and they were all sent back saying ‘We do not accept unsolicited documents’. So for a while I actually did just give up and think okay I am not going to get anywhere.

Well, I'm so glad you didn't give up on your dream! That's awesome you started so young :) What has been the most difficult part about being a writer?

Getting myself known. I know a lot of indie authors who have street crews etc. I am just not one for jumping in there and saying ‘Hey I think you should read my book’ etc. I am slowly getting there though. :)

Oh, I know how that goes so well. It's definitely a challenge but so rewarding in the end. Who are your favorite authors?

There are so many. I love Isla Dewar. She is a Scottish author and her books are great. Then there are indie authors I love, such as Alexia Purdy and K.S Haigwood.

I've never heard of Isla but I'll definitely check her out :) Have to admit, K.S. Haigwood is a personal favorite of mine as well ;) What authors inspire you?

I wouldn’t say authors, per se, inspire me to write as it is my children that do that. But there are authors out there indie authors out there that have made a great name for themselves and I think ‘I want to be as successful as them’

I have done the same thing. I love that your children inspire you <3 Are you a plotter or a pantser with your writing?

If I am totally honest I am more of a panster writer. But as each book progresses I have to have a word with myself and ask what I want the end result to be. Then I know what I am exactly aiming to achieve. (I never ever write from a to z) I do know how I want the final book in the series to end.

That sounds like a great blend of the two methods. You do need to have some idea of where you want to go to really be sure you get there lol. What type of books do you like to read?

I do love teen fiction. However I have read lots of different genres. I normally read the blurb and decide or someone recommends a book to me.

Perfect method right there :) What do you like to do in your free time?

I am a huge facebook addict! Especially when it comes to gaming. There should be an option on facebook that says something like: click here if you are an author working on a current novel. Then if you click yes another option appears to ask you if you have set yourself a deadline or not. If you click yes then you are only allowed to play games for a set amount of time. I am sure I would go crazy if that really happened, lol.

OMG that would be so brilliant! Of course I'd start having withdrawal shakes or something hahah. Where is your favorite place to vacation?

I don’t go anywhere on holidays. I visit my family down in England twice a year but that is it. But if I could go anywhere it would definitely be somewhere hot. The British weather sucks!

The weather here isn't much better lol. Completely agree about going somewhere hot! If you were stuck on a desert island and could have only three things, what would they be?

Pen, paper and music. :) If I could have two more it would be a limitless supply of water and chocolate lol

Lavinia, I adore your priorities ;) LOVE that you put pen, paper, and music above water lmao. Why did you choose to write a young adult fantasy?

With the Erin the Fire Goddess series I named it after my eldest daughter, who at the time was being bullied at school and I wanted to show her that her strength comes from inside and don’t let anyone put you down. Then I wanted other children of her age range to read it. My children are my biggest fans; especially my eldest daughter Erin who also writes.

That's so wonderful that your children read your books! What has been the most fun about working on your books?

I love how I get to control what happens in the stories and the reaction it gives my readers.

Oh yes, that's definitely a fun aspect :) What has been the hardest scene for you to write?

I am currently writing the third book in the series and I have had readers tell me that they were welling up reading the second book and they are dreading the third. I thought I’ll be okay as I am writing it. Then I wrote a really emotional scene with Erin and Sean (I can’t give too much away) but I properly sobbed my heart out. I felt so drained for days.

Aww well if that scene affected you that much, imagine how amazing it will be for your readers <3 Do you have any favorite characters?

I have to say I love my main character Erin. But there is also something about James that I like and I am trying to bring him more out of himself.

I can't wait to read your books because Erin sounds fantastic :) How did you come up with the premise for Erin the Fire Goddess?

When my daughter Erin was 5 I wrote a short story for her old school using Erin and all her classmates as the characters. It was all about how bullying is wrong and how you should stay in school and learn. The school loved it and put it on display.

Then we moved to a small village outside of Edinburgh and Erin went from being popular to being a victim of bullying and it was heart breaking to witness. Then one day she asked me to write her another story. At first I thought I don’t know, but then I went to bed one night and dreamt of a young girl who starts a new school and is bullied. Whilst she is being bullied there are a group of people who stand back and watch whilst Erin’s powers come to the surface.

Oh wow, that's wonderful and heartbreaking that your daughter was the inspiration. I hope things got better for her! Tell us about Erin and her unique fire power.

Erin was born with a birthmark covering the left side of her face. Her whole life she has been bullied because of it. Then one day the family decide to move to her parent’s home town of Galladale, where all is not as it seems. Erin is a victim of bullying almost straight away. One girl singles her out for looking at a boy named Sean. Erin is warned to stay away from him. However this becomes difficult for Erin. She loves how Sean doesn’t even seem to notice her birthmark and talks to her as if she was like everyone else. She is also scared to talk to him, in case someone spots her, but Sean seems to go out of his way to talk to her.

Then one day the bully chases after Erin and starts attacking her. Erin is scared and confused. But soon that turns to anger. She wants to know why her? This is when her powers emerge, and they scare her.

Erin sounds like such a wonderful person and I especially want to read more about her since she's based on your daughter! Is Erin the only one with special powers or are there other characters with unique abilities?

Oh no, there are lots of people with special powers. Erin discovers her own parents have special powers. Then she discovers that Sean not only has special powers but he is her soul mate.

Ooo, so intrigued! How many books will there be featuring Erin and what can we expect from them?

So far I cannot say exactly how many books there will be in the series. I can say there will be at least 5 main books plus bonus books.

You can expect a rollercoaster ride full of tears, smiles, revenge and triumphs. You will discover why they have special powers, and what the rock is really all about :)

Lucky for me, I adore roller coasters ;) If you could have any special power, what would it be and why?

I would love to be able to have the ability to time travel. It would be great to go back to the past and tell loved ones how much I really love them. I would be able to get to say goodbye to my granddad.

That is a fantastic ability and I'd love having that too! What's next for you?

I will continue to write the Erin the Fire Goddess series, but I am also writing a zombie style book. But I have a lot of research to do for this as I want it set in a small finishing village in the Sutherlands of Scotland. I want it to be as accurate as I can get it.

I cannot wait to see more from you! Well, we are unfortunately out of time. Anything else you want your readers to know?

I love writing my Erin the Fire Goddess series, but I also love feedback from my readers. So if there are any questions I have left unanswered then let me know and I will try and answer them in the books :)

Thank you again so much for stopping by Lavinia! Lovelies, be sure to check out Erin the Fire Goddess!

Meet Lavinia!

Lavinia grew up in a small town in Cheshire, England, before moving to Scotland in 2000. She now lives just outside Edinburgh with her husband Ian and their two daughters Erin and Kasey-ray.

Lavinia has been writing since an early age, something that both her children have inherited. She started with writing poetry, one of which was turned into lyrics for a song. By the age of 14, Lavinia had written seven books in an unpublished series.

After moving to Scotland she stopped writing for awhile, it was only after writing a short story for her eldest daughters school about anti bullying and how you should stay in school and learn, that Lavinia felt the yearning to write again; this was also helped by her eldest daughters thirst for literature when she asked her mother to write her another story. This was how this book series came about.

Review of Mark of the Sylph

Hello lovelies! I have joined the ranks of the reviewers on NetGalley.com and have had the pleasure of being approved to review a few books already :) Yes, I know what you're thinking. "But Lindsay Avalon, don't you already interview authors, review indie books, write your own, and work a full time job?! What the hell are you thinking?!" Well, the answer is simple: I'm a masochist who enjoys piling on the work lmao.

Anyway, I digress. You're more interested in the review aren't you? I started reading Mark of the Sylph by Rosalie Lario, an author I'd never heard of before but I liked the cover. Yes, I asked to review the book purely on the cover but when you look at it, you'll understand. After looking on Goodreads, this must be a re-release of the book because it looks like the original edition published back in 2011 with a totally different cover. All I can say is, they did a fantabulous job with the redesign because the new cover is so much more striking. Ready for the good part?

Review of Mark of the Sylph by Rosalie Lario

About the book:
Publisher: Entangled Publishing, LLC
Expected Publication Date: March 26, 2013
My source for the book: NetGalley.com
Genre: Paranormal romance
Description:

Half-demon Taeg is desperate to free his pregnant sister-in-law, who is spellbound to an indestructible book that will create an army of the undead. He is convinced that an ancient sword can destroy the book and the spell forever, but this relic has been hidden for a millennia by a powerful glamour. The clock begins to run out on his search when an old rival goes after the book and Taeg’s family in his quest for revenge.

Librarian Maya Flores has a secret: she’s immune to magic and is well aware of the supernatural beings prowling the streets of New York City. Haunted by a brutal demon attack that took her family, she is on a one-woman mission to destroy the evil demons who did it—and any others who get in her way.

Maya is Taeg’s best hope for uncovering the sword.

Unfortunately, she wants nothing more than to kill him. As he fights for her trust and to save his family, she is forced to face the truth that not all demons are evil. And the worst part? She might be falling in love with one, too.

WHAT I LIKED:

Let me start by saying this is book to of the Demons of Infernum series. I didn't realize this was part of the series because I was drawn in my the cover. I mean really, look at that cover. Talk about yummy. The blurb seemed interesting and nowhere did NetGalley say it was part of a series so I just dove right in.

I'll give the author a lot of credit here. Without having read the first book I had no trouble following the plot. There were references to events in the first book that left me itching to go buy that book, but I didn't feel the need to stop reading because I'd gotten lost. In my opinion, the mark of a good series is to be able to pick up any book and be able to follow at least 80% of the plot without having read the previous books.

I thought the ideas were fresh and interesting with the idea that demons aren't hellspawn but rather beings from another dimension. The interactions between the brothers was awesome and I adored each of their personalities as well as the fact they each had distinctly different abilities. As for our hero, Taeg? Holy hell was he hot. I went into this book expecting a damn sexy hero after such a sexy cover and I wasn't disappointed at all. Loved his character, his wit, the right blend of alpha male without being over bearing. This book had plenty of action and the sexual tension was sizzling. I made the mistake of starting this before bed and didn't fall asleep for hours because I couldn't flip the pages fast enough.

By the end I was left dying to go back and read book 1 as well as dying for the next brother in the series.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:

I hate to say it but I didn't like Maya very much at first. She starts the book loathing all demons and there's a damn good reason for that. Demons were responsible for a very traumatic experience and going through that, I'd hate demons too. My issue was how bitchy she was. She keeps trying to kill Taeg, alternating between begging to be let go and subsequently attacking him when he frees her. Sure their relationship started off a bit rocky when he kidnaps her, but it grew tiresome fast. Taeg ties her to the bed so he can try to explain himself without losing his head in the process. Maya calls him all sorts of names. Maya then calms down and promises to hear him out if he'll untie her. Taeg unties her. Maya proceeds to try to kill him. Taeg restrains her for his own protection. Maya gets all offended and pissed off.

I'm not saying she should've immediately trusted Taeg but her behavior really started to grate on my nerves. I'll be honest and say I skimmed parts of the beginning because I really couldn't understand how Taeg was so attracted to her when she was going after him.

Luckily Maya finally comes around, joins forces with Taeg, and becomes far less annoying. She's by no means my favorite heroine ever, but I grew to like her by the end.

OVERALL VERDICT: 4/5 Blue Duckies!

Like I said before, I really didn't like Maya at first. In fact, I wanted to reach through the Kindle and shake some sense into her or at the very least gag her. What saved this book and kept me reading was the interesting premise, fast pace, and Taeg. I loved Taeg. Didn't understand the initial attraction to Maya but hey, nobody's perfect right? Taeg was a damn sexy character with wit and charm and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next with him.

I also loved the fact that I started reading this book without realizing it was the second in a series and I had no trouble following along. I'd recommend reading the series in order just because that way you get a more rich experience and understanding of the characters, but you should do fine if you start on this one.

If you're looking for snappy dialog, action filled paranormal romance, and a very sexy hero, definitely give this one a read!

According to one annoying Drex Callum, Chris is a “nosy reporter.” And maybe she is. She’s heard of the super secretive event known as the Seduction Party, and she won’t be content until she finds a way in. The last thing she expects to find is that Drex is the host. She’ll never get an invitation from her nemesis—unless she finds a way to get one herself. And breaking into his house is nothing if it means getting the scoop. But what she gets instead is an eye-full of the man himself, half-naked and more than she’d ever dreamed he could be in all her teenage fantasies.

Drex has been fantasizing about Chris forever, and now that she’s a grown woman, he still has a hard time treating her like one. So when she shows up at the Seduction Party—on the auction chair!—he’s got no other choice but to teach that nosey woman a lesson. He never dreamed sex could be like this, with Chris in his room, tied to a bed, asking him for stuff that blows his mind…

But when things turn ugly, it becomes clear that someone wants the nosey reporter dead. And Drex will have his hands full trying to keep his prize safe…

WHAT I LIKED:

April Angel is a personal favorite author. You want incredibly hot sex, real characters you can relate to and feel for, and exciting plots? Then look no further than April Angel. Her stories are fun, fresh, and will leave you squirming in your chair looking for release. In the latest installment, there's some slight kink which I absolutely adored! Admit it, there are those of you who wouldn't mind for a second being tied up by the man of your dreams, at his mercy.

I love alpha males and April always delivers. Her heroines are never pushovers and Chris is no exception. I loved the subplot of someone coming after Chris and it added a tinge of suspense to really keep things exciting.

Make no mistake, this book is scorching but there's a real plot that will leave you flipping the pages to find out what happens next.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:

Absolutely nothing at all :)

OVERALL VERDICT: 5/5 Blue Duckies!!

As with all of April Angel and Milly Taiden's books, I hate coming to that final page. Her style of writing yanks me into the story and keeps me there. Excerpt

Chris held on to the window ledge and lifted one foot into the darkened room. She heaved her body over, landing on her ass in the process. A groan slipped from her lips, and she slapped a hand on her face. Crap. The last thing she needed was to call attention to her presence in Drex’s office.

Careful not to disturb anything, she walked over to his desk and started rummaging through drawers. Why the hell did she decide to become a reporter in the first place? Oh yeah, because she liked to be in people’s business was Drex’s usual snide response.

Something on the Seduction Party had to be in there somewhere. Wild drums beat in her chest. She tried to focus. She had to remain alone inside the room. She glanced quickly over her shoulder at the door. She was pissed to have to go to these lengths. Drex was a tight-lipped bastard, and she was reduced to snooping because he refused to invite her.

He knew she had been trying to write a story on the super private bash that took place once a year. Invitees were under strict restrictions and had to sign confidentiality waivers. Luckily, she’d overheard her brother, Cole, on the phone with Drex. The rat mentioned he’d gotten his invite and thanked Drex for sending it over. Her blood simmered with anger.

For months, she’d mentioned to both men how badly she’d been trying to get more info on the secretive party, but they’d done nothing to help. All she wanted was to get her hands on an invite, finally figure out what the heck the stupid Seduction Party was all about, and write her damn story.

It was no secret she and Drex didn’t see eye to eye, but he didn’t have to be so rude to her in his attempts to ward her off. When she’d asked, point blank, if he’d let her into the party, the jerk had shaken his head and said, quite empathically, no. Bastard. No matter—she’d get her own invite.

She went through every drawer until she hit a locked one. She smiled in wicked delight. Ha, as if that flimsy lock was going to deter her. In seconds the lock clicked open. Cautiously, she pulled the drawer by the handle and grinned. Jackpot.

A noise broke through her joy. Someone was outside the office. She curled her hand around the coveted black envelope and shoved it to the bottom of her crossbody bag. She threw the bag out the same window she’d crawled in and was about to jump when the door opened.

“Chris?”

Oh, hell. Frozen in place, she gripped the window ledge and looked longingly at the bag in the shrubs. Of all the people that might have walked in, why did it have to be Drex? Goose bumps broke across her skin and her frustration soared. She hated the effect his voice had on her body.

“Christine, I can see you quite clearly.”

She narrowed her eyes at the laughter in his voice. Taking a deep breath, she turned to look at him and almost fainted.

When the hell had he gotten that body? He was wet and in a towel. A tiny thing wrapped low around his hips. In stupefied shock, she watched his bronzed muscles flex as he took a step toward her. She widened her eyes and almost fell out the window trying to move away. She’d known him all her life, and there wasn’t one time she’d seen him look like…like that.

Stunned, dry mouthed, and getting hornier by the minute, she let her gaze roam over him. From the wet short spikes of his dark hair, to his wide hairless chest, down the eight-pack abs, and lower to the precarious towel that showed a hint of pubic hair, she visually devoured him. She gulped.

“Christine? Chris?” Worry was in his voice.

“Hmm?”

“You OK? You look kind of flushed.” He took another step toward her.

She tried her best to melt into the wall, but her body had other ideas. Under her tank top, her nipples pebbled to hard points. Her gaze darted up to his, and she saw something she’d never seen there before—lust. Panic swarmed her.

“I’m fine.” She took a step away from the window and him at the same time.

“What are you doing here? No one mentioned you were waiting to see me.” He lifted his brow.

It was hard to concentrate on what he was saying when so much of him was still on display. “I just…I just came by to see—” She swallowed and tried to remember what the hell she was supposed to say if she got caught.

“To see?” He prompted her with a smile. She figured he knew she was having a hard time but was thoroughly enjoying her discomfort.

Disgusted with her feminine parts, she sent all sexual thoughts to the deepest, darkest part of her brain. Her old crush on him had died a quick and silent death back in her teenage years.

“I came to ask if you’d decided to help me get my story.” Her voice sounded firm, and she squashed any notion of seeing what lay under the tiny towel.

He took a step closer and she one back. The back of her knees hit a sofa, and she fell back into the cushioned seat. His face was tense.

Her pulse jumped into a crazy gallop. Never had she seen him look so severe and, damn it, it turned her on.

“Why would I do that?” His voice deepened to a low rumble.

Something, very much like panic, pushed her to get away from him. Never one to fear, she got angry instead. “Look, I came to give you a second chance at helping me. You know I will get into that party, and when I do, I’m writing about every single thing I see there. This is your one chance to have some say on what I put down on paper.” She stood and walked toward the door of the office and then turned to face him. “So, what will it be?”

“I said no, and I meant no. That party is not the kind of thing you should be going to.”

“You hypocrite! You sent Cole an invite, and yet I can’t get one?”

He clenched his jaw. “Your brother is a grown man.”

“And what the hell am I? I’m not a little girl anymore. I know what I’m doing.” She grabbed the door handle and glared at him. “I’m going, whether you like it or not.”

He gripped her arm. Her eyes met his in an angry battle of wills.

“Don’t do anything you’ll regret, Chris.”

Unsettled by his touch, she shook her arm out of his hold. “Life’s too short for regrets.” She walked out and toward her car without a single look back.

Interview with Kristin McKittrick!!!

Hello my lovelies!! I'm so so happy to have my amazing friend Kristin McKittrick on The Lindsay Show!! Kristin will be releasing her debut paranormal romance very soon so keep an eye out!

Interview

Thank you so much for joining me, Kristin! I'm so happy to have you <3 When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I had a great teacher in high school named Lisa Humphrey's. The class was Science Fiction. She'd given us this assighnment to write an end of the world short story. (Back then I HATED writing anything.) I was having trouble coming up with a concept. So, she took me asside and asked me, what inspires you? I ended up coming up with a really good story about a world where all the adults died from some type of flu. I ended up getting an A on the story. So, in a way Mrs. Humphrey's helped me realize that I wanted to be a writer. I thank her so much for that.

It's wonderful you had such a supportive teacher. What has been the most difficult part about being a writer?

Everytime I want to sit and write life seems to get in the way. When that happens I turn on my MP3 player and crank up the music. It helps me think clearly.

Oh man, I know exactly how that goes! Who are your favorite authors?

Anne Rice, Karen Marie Monning, JR Ward, Nalini Singh, Cameo Renae, Milly Taiden, Airicka Phoenix, You of course Lindsay. And, Linsay Sands.

Aww thank you sweetie!! <3 What authors inspire you?

Linsay Sands is a big inspiration. Her vampire romance books are stunning! I recommend them to anyone. You wont be dissapointend.

You know, I have never read her books but I will definitely give them a shot! Are you a plotter or a pantser with your writing?

A plotter definately.

Haha I'm the exact opposite :) What type of books do you like to read?

Paranormal romance, action and fantasy.

Love those genres. What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to curl up in my soft blanket that my cousin Robby and his wife Adriane gave me and read or, watch a great movie from my massive DVD collection.

OMG that sounds soooooo relaxing. Where is your favorite place to vacation?

Jump Off Joe Lake near Deer Park. My family used to go there and camp. Its gorgeous!

I have never heard of that but I freaking love the name lol. If you were stuck on a desert island and could have only three things, what would they be?

Ian Sommerhalder, Chris Hemsworth and my pen and paper. A girl has to write when the hot men are busy, right? ;)

LMAO I love you Kristin and I love your answer <3 Why did you choose to write paranormal romance?

Because, I love reading them and, I thought it would be fun to write one. I was right!

That's exactly why I decided to write paranormal romance. What has been the most fun about working on your books?

The way that I can make my characters do whatever I want.

That has to be one of my favorite parts too. What has been the hardest scene for you to write?

My fighting scenes! I literally suck at them. Luckily I have a great friend that helps me in that department. Thanks Rodney Lookebill!

LOL! I'm sure they're not that bad sweetie. Do you have any favorite characters?

Michael because, he's kickass with those Katana's and he's a hot guy.

Well, now I'm dying to read more about Michael :D How did you come up with the premise for Kissing Darkness

This may sound funny but, the premise came to me in a dream. I woke up instantly and wrote down everything that happened in my dream.

Makes perfect sense to me! Tell us about the world of Kissing Darkness

Kissing Darkness is all about the fight between humanity and vampires. There is lots of action and sexy scenes between Michael and Kate. Milly Taiden would be proud of the sexyness! ;)

Ok I'm dying to read this now. I'll have to make room in my review queue sooner than later!! I must know more about your hero and heroine. From the snippets on your blog, Michael sounds so sexy!

Michael first met Kate when she was seven. His sire Caroline kidnapped her and, he saved her. That all comes to light in the book. Michael is very sexy! He's 6'4, very well built, he has blue velvet eyes and a mouth that's very kissable.

When can we expect this awesome book to be released? And will Kissing Darkness be part of a series?

I'm hoping to have it finished by February 29th. I'm aiming twards March 10th for its release. It might be part of a series. I'm not too sure yet though.

SQUEEEEEEE!! So excited!! I’ve got to ask. Would you want to be a vampire?

Yes I would. I could live forever and not have to worry about getting sick. The whole blood drinking thing I'm not too sure of though. LOL

Hahaha, love that logic and I have to agree :) What's next for you?

My next book I'll be working on is a short story called Nightwalkers. Its about a virus that takes over the human body turning everyone into blood thirsty ravenous vampires.

Write faster, that sounds damn good!! Anything else you want your readers to know?

Never give up on your dreams. You can be whatever you want to be. If people try and tare you down just remember that its okay to dream.

Thank you so very much for joining me today Kristin!! It has been a pleasure having you <3

Interview with Bonnie Bernard!!

Hello my lovelies! It's that time again, time to meet another fantabulous author here on The Lindsay Show. Please welcome the amazingly awesome Bonnie Bernard to the show!! Grab your coffee or tea and let's get started :)

On February 28, there will be a "Hell on Wheels" contest/giveaway over at HELL (see below for link)!!!
Don't miss it!

Interview

Thank you so much for joining me, Bonnie! When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

At six year old, my (then best) friend and I scribbled our names with markers all over her mom’s freshly-painted living room wall. We got in significant trouble and I was banished from the house…but the incident made me realize that writing things makes people notice you.

LMAO! I have to admit, that's probably the best response I've ever gotten to that question!! What has been the most difficult part about being a writer?

Promotion. As a life-long self-employed contractor, I have always cringed when staring into the self-promotion abyss. Promoting my books is no different.

Yes, navigating the tricky promotional waters is not easy by any means. Who are your favorite authors?

I like classic literature, so Jane Austen, DH Lawrence, or any Bronte sister.

Ooo, those are great authors! What authors inspire you?

Stephen King and JK Rowling…I respect their human compassion.

I think they're both amazing authors and certainly inspiring. Are you a plotter or a pantser with your writing?

Pantser. Sometimes I’m flying by the seat of even less than that.

Haha, me too! I think it makes things more exciting :) What type of books do you like to read?

Historical fiction, supernatural fiction, weird fiction, and a peppering of non-fiction essays.

LOL, I love the term "weird fiction" :) What do you like to do in your free time?

Read, hike barefoot, play in my garden, walk my dog, plot world domination in the coffee shop with friends.

I must show my husband your response so he knows I'm not the only one who likes to go barefoot!! Where is your favorite place to vacation?

I like Honduras best, but when I make it to Switzerland, I might change my mind.

Never been to either place but Honduras must've been gorgeous. I want pictures sometime! If you were stuck on a desert island and could have only three things, what would they be?

Funny you should ask, because I once WAS stuck on a desert island (for a whole four hours, ha). Solar-powered batteries, my computer, and my husband.

Really? You just leave it at that?! *whimper* We will have words later lol. Why did you choose to write paranormal?

It gives me the right to break a few rules and yet it demands believability.

I think that's one of the reasons I adore paranormal, too. Where's the fun in obeying all the rules? What has been the most fun about working on your books?

I’m wild about playing with my characters, except when they knock on my head in the middle of the night and insist I listen to them instead of snoozing.

Hahaha I bet it's exciting and a little frustrating to be woken up in the middle of the night by your characters. They must have lots to say! What has been the hardest scene for you to write?

Fight scenes. Acting them out for realism purposes isn’t fun either.

Yeah, fight scenes have been tough for me to write as well. Do you have any favorite characters?

Out of the Midnight Hunter Trilogy - Howie Evil and Mo Bently are my favorite, because they come up with their own lines. I just have to sit there and type out what they say. It’s easy and entertaining.

OMG I love those names! How did you come up with the premise for your Midnight Hunter Trilogy?

It was a dare. As in, “I dare you to come up with a supernatural book.”

Haha, again you taunt us with mystery! Tell us about the books in the trilogy please. Is Donna the heroine in all three?

Donna is the protagonist who has the most to lose and who grows the most. She starts out as a shy, unsure, almost helpless thing and winds up…well, no spoilers, but she has to learn a thing or two about kicking ass in order to stay alive and protect her family.

I think I'm going to like her :) Can you explain more about Eternal Partner, Chaos, and the other supernatural elements?

Eternal Partners are like soul mates, and when you meet yours the way you can tell is by the wild reaction of your own heartbeat when you’re near the other person. Not everybody gets an Eternal Partner, and it’s pretty rare for supernatural characters (such as the vampires and demons in the Midnight Hunter Trilogy). When a supernatural character finds a mortal Eternal Partner, rest assured the gods have big plans for that couple.

Chaos is a goddess with a snarky temper, and her limited power in the physical world makes her angry enough to throw tantrums in the best ways she knows how (tempests, volcanoes, tornadoes, the usual stuff).

The Midnight Hunter Trilogy features Underworld vampires, demons, and gods who are compelled to interact with plain ole humans. They need to fit in, they try to fit in, and they work like mad to fit in. That struggle is fun for me to watch, and I hope it’s fun for the readers too. I assure you, it’s not always fun for the vampires, demons, and gods. But when it is…well, crazy things happen.

Well lovelies, I don't know about you but I'm now dying to read this!! I know this is a trilogy but will there be any other books featuring Donna or any other characters from the Midnight Hunter Trilogy?

I’m working on a spin off now with a few new characters and several old favorites.

Yay spinoffs! I’ve got to ask. If faced with college or taking on demons and Chaos, which would you rather face?

I went to college and it was a challenge, but I’d like to tackle demons.

LOL! There are times I think I'd agree with you thinking back to my college days ;) What's next for you?

I’m working on the Midnight Hunter Trilogy spin off and on a different (weird and fun) novel.

I can't wait to see more from you! Anything else you want your readers to know?

Thanks for supporting my crazy characters, and for supporting the characters of other indies. Our world grows as you participate in it!

It has been a pleasure having you with me today, Bonnie!! Lovelies, stick around to learn more about her books!

The Midnight Hunter Trilogy...Buy it Now!

Donna McCormick is a smart, pretty college student with a best friend, a dream of a normal life, and a promising future. Donna’s twenty-first birthday is just one week away. Unfortunately, so is her murder. Pursued in her dreams by a mysterious man who claims to be her Eternal Partner, in her waking hours Donna faces another who claims to be the same. One wants her dead and the other promises to keep her alive. Too bad she can’t tell which is which. It doesn’t help that neither is entirely honest, or for that matter entirely human.

To make matters worse, just when she needs her most, Donna’s best friend deserts her and her knight in five speed armor disappears. With no other choice, Donna seeks help from a legendary demon. He hates interruptions almost as much as he hates humans, and Donna is guilty of being both. His finger is on the trigger, Donna is in his sights, and he’s promised to blow her brains out if she gets any closer. Desperate, she takes a step toward the monster...
College is a distant memory, the fate of the future is in Donna’s hands, and the world is on a collision course with Chaos. Too bad the only way out is down.

Sneak Peek Sunday 2-17!!

Hello my lovelies! Are you ready for another sneak peek into my current WIP, tentatively titled Warrior Unleashed? It's my novella featuring sexy panther Chimerae (shifter) Achaius and feisty Gaelen (wind) Sorceri Saia. My tentative release date is toward the end of March :) Enjoy!

Saia was so lost in thought she didn’t notice that Achaius had halted until his arms snaked around her and pulled her flush against his body. “What—“ she began, at a loss for words as his warmth seeped into her, tempting her to melt further into his embrace..

“You were about to take a tree branch to that pretty neck of yours.”

“Oh, thanks.” Confused, she glanced around, her mind trying to process her surroundings. While it probably would be easier to think if she put some distance between them, she was loathe to part from the waves of heat rolling off of him. The man was a furnace, a delicious furnace. And now you’re losing your mind.

A massive cliff loomed over them a few paces ahead, flanked by ancient trees stretching toward the heavens. “Achaius, if you brought me here to show me some rocks and shrubbery, I’m not impressed.”

Hello my lovelies! Man this blog has been hopping lately hasn't it? Don't miss out on any of the fantabulous giveaways I have going on!!

I hope you all had fun yesterday with Valentine's Day and if you didn't, just remember that one advantage to that Hallmark Holiday is the fact that TONS of candy will be on sale now :D Today on The Lindsay Show, I have with my the amazingly awesome Niecey Roy!! So excited to have her joining me :) Grab your chocolates, your coffee or tea, and fasten your seat belts because today we're talking about what happens when 2 people get into a little Fender Bender ;)

Interview

Thank you so much for joining me today, Niecey! I love the concept of this book :) When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I always knew. Well, as soon as I learned to read, I was caught up in the world of fiction. I guess you could say I was a born bookworm. Reading gave me a profound respect for writers. I was amazed at the idea of weaving one’s imaginations into words and brought to life on paper. I was in grade school when I decided I wanted to write my own stories for the world to see.

I love that! I was born a bookwork too lol. What has been the most difficult part about being a writer?

It was never difficult to write when I was younger; that is, while still in school. After high school graduation, I had to venture out into the real world and got caught up in every day life (a.k.a. bills). I was married and had my first child by the age of 24, so finding writing time since then has been very difficult. I’ve become very skilled in the art of exhaustion. Ha!

LOL I know exactly how you feel :) Who are your favorite authors?

This is a tough question for me to answer because I am a fan of all genres, and I read a lot. I have a few choice authors whose books I will always pick up, even if I know I won’t be able to read them for months or even years. The idea of not owning their new release is unbearable. Those authors are Patricia Cornwell and Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. I’ve also been a huge fan of Christopher Pike all of my life, since childhood. I don’t go out specifically to pick up his books, but I almost always come home with one when I visit a bookstore. You’ll notice I write romance and I haven’t named any romance authors. It’s because I love too many equally the same and I make it a habit to not read in the genre of my current WIP.

That's always a really tough one for me to answer too. What authors inspire you?

All authors inspire me. I know this is a vague answer and it’s because I’ve really met so many in the last couple of years that inspire me daily.

I can totally relate to that. There are so many inspiring authors out there that really, it's nearly impossible for me to pick just a few. Are you a plotter or a pantser with your writing?

Depends on the story. I do better as a pantser, but there are times that plotting is necessary.

Fair enough lol. What type of books do you like to read?

All genres. I’m not a book snob :)

That's awesome! I, unfortunately, am a bit of a book snob. Or rather, I just enjoy certain genres more than others haha. What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to read in my free time, but I also enjoy cooking (I sometimes throw up recipes on my blog, so check it out if that interests you) and I love to garden, though I’m not great at it, ha! Spring is my favorite season, just because I get to see my yard blossom. It’s really filled out in the last four years since we moved to this house.

Ooo I'm definitely going to be checking out your blog for some recipes :) Where is your favorite place to vacation?

I wish I could say something amazing here, but the truth is I don’t get to vacation, like, ever. During the summers we spend a lot of time at my dad’s house. He owns property on the river and we go camping, fishing, and airboating. It’s very fun. Someday, I’ll get to travel to all my bucket list destinations. For now, I’m content to be a Nebraskan bumpkin.

You need a vacation! I vote for somewhere warm, sunny, and with sexy men to wait on you hand and foot. What’s your best Valentine’s day story?

I don’t really have a best story… I guess it’s because I married young and those Valentine’s Days before my husband are a blur. Now, our Valentine’s Days are always spent with our kids and that’s by choice. My hubby is sweet and he tries to cook for us sometimes. That gets interesting :)

LOL I have the same problem. My husband and I met when we were freshmen in college and have been together ever since. He still manages to surprise me sometimes <3 He has yet to attempt cooking though! Why did you choose to write contemporary romance?

I didn’t really choose to write contemporary romance; it chose me :) I’ve written a historical (which might never see the light of day. At least, not until I have the time to type my handwritten pages into the computer). But contemporary flows for me. My stories almost always write themselves, and as long as that’s happening, I’ll keep writing contemporary romance :)

That is pretty much what happened with me and paranormal romance haha. What has been the most fun about working on your books?

Writing The End and sitting back to say, “I did it.”

OMG that's like the best feeling ever, isn't it? What has been the hardest scene for you to write?

Sex scenes! The thing is, I stress about them, but mostly when I’m not actually writing the scene. When it’s time to sit down and do it, usually the characters take charge and I’m like a backseat driver. But the thought of writing the scenes always make me nervous. Maybe it’s because I’m worried about my parents and my husbands parents reading them, ha!

Those were definitely the hardest for me to write! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has struggled with those lol. Do you have any favorite characters?

In Fender Bender Blues, my favorite character was Rachel, the female protagonist. I love her. Mostly because she reminds me a lot of myself.

Love it! If your character has a little bit of yourself, it'll be that much more real in my opinion. How did you come up with the premise for Fender Bender Blues?

I was in a fender bender with a hot guy who was really very nice (it was his fault). But I got to thinking, what if it was the other way around? What if the fender bender had been my fault and the guy had been a total jerk (a total hot jerk). I went home and began Fender Bender Blues.

Oh, that's awesome haha. Your blurb mentions they toilet paper the trees of a high school nemesis. I’m intrigued now lol. Tell us more about Craig, Rach, and their antics.

Craig is a very put together guy. He’s successful, career driven, responsible—until he meets Rach. And Rach, well, she was just like Craig until something at work really threw her off track. Now she’s surrounded by chaos, and Craig seems to bring out the brat in her. There’s lots of bickering, a lot of sizzling attraction and a lot of things standing in the way of their relationship. I think it surprises everyone, including themselves, how they so easily join forces to wage what Rach likes to call “yard wars.”

You do realize this is making me dying to read this book, right? Love how this sounds! Will Fender Bender Blues be part of a series? If so, what can we expect from future books?

I never meant for Fender Bender Blues to be part of a series. However, I fell in love with some of the characters so much that I just can’t let them go. Be prepared to see a few familiar characters in my next books.

YAY! I always love when authors revisit old characters. I always wonder what happened to characters after the book is over ;) If you got into a fender bender with a sexy, wealthy man, what would be your reaction?

Well, I’m married, so I’d do what I did the day I was inspired to write Fender Bender Blues, I’d giggle while taking down his insurance information. Ha!

Seriously, I love that real events inspired you. I’ve got to ask. Do you have any funny crash stories?

Oh Lindsay…I have the worst luck with vehicles! If I’m not locking my keys in my vehicles, I’m breaking off a side mirror on my garage while backing out. I think it’s why my husband keeps making excuses when I mention I want a new vehicle. Ha!

LMAO! I have the worst luck too lol, as I'm sure you saw from my reports about my accident a few weeks ago. According to my brother, I'm now the worst driver in the family. I dispute that, however, and maintain he's the worst one ;) What's next for you?

Sky’s the limit and I’m not done reaching. I should be finished with the next contemporary romance by the end of February. At least, that’s what date I promised it to my editor by. Pressure is on, yikes!

You'll be able to do it! Anything else you want your readers to know?

EXCERPT:

“Now what?”

“Nothing.”Rach sniffed.

Craig shifted to eye her warily. “Since when do you answer me with single words?”

“Since I decided I’m not talking to you,” she answered with a shrug, crumpling up the white paper wrapper from her sub.

Craig leaned his face in close to her neck and enjoyed the startled jerk of her shoulders. Her eyes opened wide in surprise. His breath shifted a few strands of hair at the nape of her neck as he whispered, “Why, because you want me?”

“You’re incorrigible,” she said, breathless, her cheeks flushed.

She’s enjoying this. The thought pleased him. Rach was on her back beside him now, her eyes closed. He glanced around the park to see if anyone was watching. No one was. He could swoop in for a kiss and no one would catch him. No one would care, he told himself. She won’t mind…

“I can feel you staring.”

Craig smiled down at her. “So what.”

She peeked at him with one green eye. “So stop it.”

“And if I don’t?” Maybe she’d tackle him, push him down on the blanket and…

She didn’t. She promptly closed her eye and went back to pretending indifference. “I’ll hit you, that’s what.”

“Not if I do this, you won’t.”

He’d only meant it to be a short kiss, but the pleasure of touching his lips to hers kept him there longer. Her tongue was velvet soft and warm against his and the slow mating of their mouths quickened his heartbeat even as he told himself, It’s no big deal, just a kiss.

She nipped his bottom lip and sent heat sliding through his body. The woman could kiss.

She whispered soft against his lips, “Now why don’t you admit that it’s you who wants me.”
