Interview with Tessa Stokes!!

Good morning lovelies, are you ready to get to know another one of my amazing author friends? Today I'm sitting down with the fantabulous Tessa Stokes!! Tessa is a paranormal romance writer, a personal favorite genre of mine ;) Grab your coffee or tea and let's get started!

Oh and be sure to continue reading after the interview for a special 18+ excerpt from Tessa's Stone Kisses!!

Interview

First of all, thank you again for joining me here on The Lindsay Show! Let's dive right in, shall we? When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I never really thought about it like that. I just fell into it and wrote all sort so stuff in different jobs that were not even supposed to have a writer component.  Then because I was tired of all that and never owning copyright on my work I started writing the fiction I had in my head for years.

I love that! It's kind of how I fell into it in a way :) What has been the most difficult part about being a writer?

I think it’s getting my books noticed.

Yes, that is so so difficult! Starting this process I don't think I fully realized how hard it would be, and I have immense respect for my fellow indie authors. Who are your favorite authors?

Favorite authors are classical people. I read heaps though from all kinds of genres. If I have to choose favorites then it’s writers such as Thomas Hardy, Dickens, I find their take on society compelling.

Those are some great choices :) Dickens certainly did have an intriguing view on society. What authors inspire you?

To be honest inspiration doesn’t come from other authors it comes from people, places, history, emotions.

There's nothing wrong with that! Definitely a wealth of inspiration out there! Do you like to plan your scenes out or do you just wing it?

I usually have a story in my head and start it, then plan a little, then more will just arrive in my head.

That sounds a lot like how I do it. A little to get me started and then it just keeps building in my brain as I write. What type of books do you like to read?

I read all kinds of genres. Currently gone back to Sci-Fi, but just read the new book from Christine Feehan, Dark Storm.

Wait there's a new one by Christine?! How'd I miss that? Ok TBR pile, you're never going down. What do you like to do in your free time?

Wander around historic sites, ruins, castles, stone circles.

Tessa, I'm jealous you get to wander historic sites like that *pout* We don't have anything like that around here. I kid, that must be amazing! Where is your favorite place to vacation?

You might not believe this but I don’t really vacation. Lots of my jobs have been contractual so when I had a few days off I would drive to some historical place and take photos or find inspiration.

Well I guess I could understand not taking vacations since it seems your job takes you to some fun places! Let's switch gears a little bit. Can you tell us about your Ruthin Trilogy, please ☺

There are two books in The Trilogy so far.
Devon Ruthin and a Vampire in Love, that’s the first volume.
When a girl looking for love meets a lonely, but strange man she has her suspicions about him, especially since he doesn’t seem to eat.
He’s not what he used to be, he’s totally reformed and lives amongst a group of ancient magical beings. Just what is he besides, gorgeous, sexy, intelligent and totally in love with her?
He’s a dress designer, a dot com businessman, a good friend, courageous, and he’s four hundred and some years old.
Fate has some weird twists in store for this couple but above all else it has a delicious love story.
Devon Ruthin finally hears from his very dangerous brother after twenty years. It’s not the reunion he would hope for, when Drew takes a liking to the girl Devon loves.
This chance meeting with a girl he is not destined for, but who is the catalyst for his destiny sets off a series of events that only reach a climax in book three of the trilogy.
It’s not the reunion Drew might have hoped for either, because he discovers the woman he’s always loved lives in the same town as Devon, and he begins a quest to win her back.
Drew is still a dangerous being but his love interest Elise has some tricks up her sleeve.

Drew Ruthin and the Blood of Changes, book two

Drew Ruthin wakes to find he doesn’t remember a thing but at least his old friend Greta is there to help him remember.
They do a little hunting and Drew likes it.
He’s in for a shock when as the days go by after his reawakening he starts to change into of all things, a good guy.
It’s the legacy the ancient magical being Elise left him, but she doesn’t know it, and neither does he. He only knows he loves her and is desperate to get her back.
Drew’s journey from a dangerous being to what he becomes for Elise is full of angst, killing, and finally tenderness.
Can he win her back and what does a warrior mage have in mind for him?
In this second book of The Ruthin Trilogy Drew and Elise share some hot love scenes. Some tender moments and as she turns against her own people his brother Devon, who swore to kill him, has a change of heart.
In the background the lovely, ancient, warrior mage Balthazar Crane finds love of his own and starts to mellow.
Is the high princess Tara facing a challenge from one of her magical people? Just what is in store for Bliss the girl who hopes her parents named her for the love they felt for each other?

Loving how those sound! Now I understand you also have another book called Stone Kisses. What's that about?

A different paranormal romance. A contemporary adult fairy tale with explicit love scenes Stone Kisses is suitable for adults only.

Stella is a young woman living alone, working at her graphic design business, and has not had a man in her life for a long time and feels very lonely.
It’s summer and she looks around her, sees only couples, and she ends up longing for love or at least kisses.
Some distance away, Apollo and Mercury live reasonably peacefully on the outskirts of town. These two gods are left over from ancient times. They have a game they like to play and Stella our heroine gets caught up in it.
Stella is an ordinary young woman working hard to pay her mortgage when she becomes entangled in the game.

She is in her garden and looks back at her house, she sees it needs painting but unable to afford this she decides to buy flowers for her garden to brighten it up.
In a garden center buying flowers, Stella meets Justin. He is beautiful, strong, and attracted to her. He decides to pursue her.
She also finds a garden statue she would like, a statue of Mercury the winged messenger.
Justin knows she wants the statue and he gifts it to her.
Let the game begin.

Oh wow I'm definitely adding those to my TBR pile! Don't forget my lovelies, there will be a special excerpt from Stone Kisses after the interview! Why did you choose to write paranormal romance?

I like the freedom of the genre. You can do anything with it and I like the way I can have happy things and endings.

I completely agree. I adore how much freedom this genre gives me :) What has been the most fun about working on your books?

Forming the characters, they feel real to me after a while.

That's how you know you're going to write wonderful characters in my opinion. How do you come up with the premise for your books?

Places give me a little sentence of inspiration and then I find I have a story.

Love that! What has been the hardest scene for you to write?

To be honest I can’t think of any. It just pours out onto the page.

Really?! That's both awesome and makes me slightly jealous ;) It's ok though, you're too sweet for me to stay jealous *hugs* Do you have any favorite characters from your books? If so, why?

I like Drew my vampire in The Ruthin Trilogy. He’s such a riot, and also he took on a personality of his own which was a great thing.

I can't wait to read him now! We are just about out of time, so what's next for you?

Book three of the Ruthin Trilogy and a stand alone paranormal romance.

Can't wait to find out more about those books :) Thank you so much for stopping by today, Tessa! Before you go, is there anything else you want your readers to know?

It’s a thank you for reading my books and giving me a chance to speak to you through them.

Well lovelies, I hope you enjoyed meeting Tessa as much as I have! She has several books out to add to your TBR pile so be sure to snag those. Now are you ready for an excerpt from Stone Kisses?

He sighed as he held her close; she was delicious he thought.
It was not long before they found themselves thinking about going up to bed and Justin took a deep breath.
“Are you sure you want this Stella?” he asked, and Stella nodded.
“I do, I really need you. I’m longing to feel your skin against mine”.
Justin swallowed; it was very sexy to be told this he thought and he closed his eyes in pleasure.
He kissed Stella extra gently and it felt very loving to her.
They made their way upstairs, and Justin stood for a moment by the window, and looked down on Mercury as Stella was in the bathroom.
He felt a twinge of guilt but it went away very quickly when Stella came back to him tasting of minty toothpaste and in her short lacy slip.
Justin waltzed her to the bed kissing down her neck to nuzzle in the soft part of her shoulder and give her goose bumps. They fell onto the bed laughing, and then as Justin kissed Stella deeply they undressed each other, and lay against each other skin to skin. Stella had her hands in Justin’s hair and for a second it reminded her of Mercury, and then Justin slid his hands down her hips and pressed against her. Stella sighed. Justin was real and gorgeous, and in fact he could be Mercury with his muscles and lovely hair, except he had blue eyes like a Grecian summer sky.
She kissed him, and moved her own hands down his body to first feel his muscular bottom, and then move her hands around to circle his hard, thick length. This made Justin catch his breath and he moved her legs apart gently to push his finger into her. It felt like heaven to Stella to have his lips against hers, and his fingers in her and she told him so. Justin melted at this declaration, and he moved so that he could enter her a little at a time until they were both breathless with the need to move against each other.
They made love for a long time. Justin felt as if he had never experienced anything quite so exquisite. Stella felt loved. He whispered to her that he thought he was falling in love with her as he kissed her and held her close.

I don't know about all of you, but damn do I want this book now!!
